Last week I went to head out, loaded. Truck was warmed up, started to climb a little hill and it spit and shuddered, had to drop it into 1st. Same thing happend on the flat, white or grey smoke dumping out. Pulled over at a local shop, changed fuel filters and still doing it. Had the shop check the turbos and they didnt find anything, bobtailed to the house and all seemed good. Next morning went a got the trailer and hit the interstate, same thing happend, couldn't get over 35 mph. Dropped the trailer and started to bobtail 80 miles to another shop, did the same thing all the way down there. They scanned it, no codes, it was in the shop all day and they couldn't find anything wrong. Bobtailed home and everything was good, grabbed the trailer to bring to the house and seemed like it was running fine. It's been really cold here, I did have anti gel in the tanks. Left it running all night last night, shop said maybe bad fuel or just some water. I put in 911 before bringing it home. It's a 2006 per 379. Any ideas what might been going on?

No codes. Ok. So did the shops check fuel psi? Fuel pump going out? Starts good?
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
It starts just fine, also idles just fine. The shop couldn't get it to replicate. They didnt drive it long enough and didnt have a loaded trailer, said fuel PSI was good. But what was happening to me wasnt happening to them.

You are gonna need to install a mechanical fuel gage and tap off the secondary fuel base. Run enough line to where you can read the gauge while it is zipped tied to wiper blade. Read the fuel psi while it is having the issue you are talking about. If not throwing a code, it sounds like a fuel problem. Could be an injector as well but start with simplistic things first
-
The shop said they checked injectors and everything was good. I'm letting it run all weekend incase it is bad fuel or water in it. I half to run up Vail and Eisenhower pass Monday.

I would still like to see fuel psi readings while this is happening for piece of mind. You could make a mechanical gauge setup for under a hundred bucks. This is something they weren’t able to do
-
I will half to try it. I hope it dont do it again lol. Need to get this load off!

Hmmm I know they said turbos are good but I would double check it didn’t blow off any intercooler lines, c15’s are notorious for that, but besides that I would say it’s fuel related
-
Ran it to denver this morning with no issues. I let it idle for two days, put some 911 in it.

You saying smoke dumping out makes me think this isn’t the issue but we had a similar thing happen to our 3406c when it was really cold out. It would run fine for a while then bog down bad. Our tank heater doesn’t work on our fuel tank btw. Found out we had 2 micron filters on. Switched to 10-15? (Don’t remember exactly what rating) and never had an issue again. Doubt this is your problem if it’s smoking but might be worth checking
