Mooney, where is the graph showing our Imports from Mexico? that would make an interesting comparison as to the trade deficit, just remember to include the products made by US companies who have moved production facilities to Mexico, such as GM(pickups & some Buicks),Chrysler(PT Cruiser & Jeep products-some),Freightliner's Cascadia model just to name a few. parts of NAFTA are good, but as usual, politicans were not thinking when they drafted it.WE DON'T NEED THEIR TRUCKS HERE!!!! period. WE DON'T NEED CANADA'S EITHER!....trade is good when it is in balance---you buy my wheat,i buy your eggs.we both eat well. simple economics

canada's really not a problem as their economy/currency is close with ours. they haul for around the same rates as us, unlike mex carriers that would haul for HALF our rates.
    canadian 1 usd=1.27
    mexican 1usd = 15.47 pesos whatever the heck a peso is:biggrin_255:

Make fun of it if you will, but do a GOOGLE on Mexican import tariff's, Smoot Hawley Act etc.

The Cross Border Program, according to the recent DOT OIG report was a success and totally debunked the lies that Hoffa and Spencer of OOIDA have used to oppose this program.

ZERO Accidents, ZERO major safety violations. Total compliance! The downside of the report was small technical issue related to record keeping between FMCSA and CBP.

Let's see, shut the program down and all American carriers who have invested and participated will lose revenue, capitol and most likely jobs.

The Mexican carriers? Well, they've positioned themselves to continue running as they did under the program but without the oversight through us of US domiciled subsidiaries. All perfectly legal!

Retaliatory tariff's won't stop trade between the two countries Tariffs on auto parts, electronics, agri products will still come across the border. The importers will pass on the cost to the consumer, meaning more money out of our pockets.

It would have been better to let the program play out. But to do so would have further exposed the lies and corrupt behavior of Hoffa, Spencer, Dorgan and others.

So now you have it stopped, with no valid reason. Prepare yourself for the consequences.

And remember, the statistics be ######! The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. These participants have proven their ability to operate in our environment safely and in full compliance.

This is where you're wrong guy!

Rates to Monterrey NL from Laredo Texas, a distance of 160 is $550.00 to the Mexican carriers.

From Laredo Texas to the Mexico City area, a distance of 720 miles, the rates are at present, $1340.00 dollars US or $21000.00 pesos at todays exchange rate.

Compare that to freight coming out of Laredo, the valley and El Paso at rates of around $.85cpm or less. (Thank you Mr American Freight Broker)

The only thing that Mexico seems able to organize is their drug cartels. Those guys don't seem to have a problem with their "shipping". The country is overrun by drug lords and thugs. They even have soldiers deserting from their Army to join in the drug trade. The country is in complete chaos. This is what happens when a govt and the elite continue to exploit it's citizens.

At one time I use to go over to Mexico without a second thought, now you couldn't pay me to go over there, let alone drive a load across.

Until employers in the USA stop or are forced to stop hiring illegals, they will continue to be a drain on our society, on both sides of the border. Enforce the existing laws!

I got the poop on the dollar/peso. Right now, a dollar here is worth 14.80 pesos there.
And minimum wage there is 52 pesos a day, or $3.51
Make you wonder why they want to come over here and work, huh?

Mexico won't do a thing! Their unemployment rate is sky high! Calderon will bluster and do some little symbolic jesture. But they can't afford to do anything now.

The Mexican economy is too dependent on the U.S. to shake things up. Calderon is too dependent on Washington for his war with the cartels to push this. He will strut around like a rooster and puff out his chest. Even so, who cares! Mexican trucks will just put more Americans out of work and bring both economies down lower than they are now.

Mexico should stop acting as if they are some type of major power. They remind me some one that you invite over for dinner and then has the arrogance to complain about the food being served! They are not good neighbors. Mexico is a mess because of the failure of the elites to invest in their own country, Vincente Fox was right when he said that most Americans think Mexico is run by thugs and theives! Mexico is run by thugs and theives! The Mafia and the corrupt government!:yes2557:
