New owner operator, Lease or Own authority?

At the end of the day, the owner op and the lease op are still considered unskilled labor by the US Dept of Labor. And they don’t care who they offend.

To me it doesn’t matter how anyone reaches their numbers and goals in life. As long as they do no harm.

I just ran an annual report from my logging software. I'm done for the rest of the year, so the numbers are accurate. Dry van operation in the PNW I-5 corridor only, all spot freight.

I'm right at 200k revenue for the year. Out of the logged 69,543 annual miles, at least 4,000 of those are pc miles too. Many of those 213 "worked days" were also days when I was back home in my own bed for the night.

One of things I determined when I got into this as an owner operator was I was not going to be like a migrant worker who follows the harvest. Home time is a high priority for me. Being an owner operator has it's responsibilities, however, there should be a reasonable amount of privilege that goes with it, in my opinion, of course.

Privileges should be a priority that’s equal to profit. Be it hometime or the ability to go when and where you want, as long as the bills are paid.

 

Yes, I agree. Only the individual can ultimately determine where that line is for themselves.

To try and use a metric that pigeon holes everyone into the same mold is useless. However, there's that old adage about, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

 

I think in a high volume corridor like you’re in or the Eastern Seaboard that’s more viable than a trucker out of the Midwest . The rates are higher and the distances shorter

 

I would rather lease on before own authority
