    Yeah it is amazing.

For some reason people think that this is easy money but it is a multi-billion dollar industry where millions are exchanged each hour of the day.

I really feel means testing and further qualifications are needed to have an authority, not just fill out some paper work, get insurance and get it in the mail.

    DrDieselUSA Thanks this.

The problem is that you have mostly two types of people thinking of going O/O. You have the "#### it it'll work itself out" throw themselves in the deep end with no research, and the probably never get started 1000 hours of research drivers.

Hi Brian991219 (or anyone else that has knowledge in this area) You seem very knowledgeable about Hotshotting. And it sounds like you do consulting professionally? This is my very first post, so please forgive my ignorance. I wanted to ask if you still do consulting because I would be interested in speaking with you. BUT I just read the rules and maybe that is not allowed? "2. No Advertising. Promoting your website or businesses will result in your account being banned." But YOU were not advertising and I am asking you for help. So maybe that is different? Basically I'm looking for a consultant and I am having a hard time finding one. My question pertains to this thread. I am in the very initial stages of researching that particular area. Where one company owns the authority, the trailer, and the insurance and an individual owns the truck and will do the driving. The company has money for big expenses, the driver does not. I know that entails a lot of meticulous planning etc and would want everything to be set up correctly from the beginning and understand the implications of the liability. I'm not a fly by the seat of your pants person. I'm guessing my question is way too involved for a forum? And was guessing I would have to pay someone to help me set it up if I want it done right? I have done a lot of research online but have not found this exact scenario as of yet. So if anyone could point me into the right direction by way of consultant, thread, information, article, website, etc, I would really appreciate any help. (The one thing I do not need help with is obtaining the authority...) Thank you in advance.

I would love to help you. It is not all that complicated, although it is more than I care to do in a public forum or for free.

Your plan just requires an iron clad contract that protects your interests as the motor carrier as well as being fair to the truck owner. Compliance with the FMCSA leasing regulations is an absolute must, and by doing so the lease will be fair and balanced as that is the intent of the leasing regulations.

In it's simplest form that is what you would be creating -a motor carrier that leases on owner operators. Don't confuse this with lease purchase, I shy away from ever recommending those arrangements to either a owner, wanna be owner or motor carrier as they often end in disaster and are usually unfair to the driver that wants to be an owner.

HarRav, you are lucky, this is the best advise you can be given. You must cover yourself while being FMCSA compliant and treating the drivers/OO with respect and integrity.
