    Me I would have logged it on Duty waiting. At least most of it. Enough to force me to bed. No way am I going to be up reading, napping, checking on the load @ times or anything else up for 14 hours & then be expected to drive. No way no how. I value my life more than any piece of freight or job. I prefer to be late & alive, rather than early dead. With recorders on board you are handing down your own prison sentence if you ever get jammed up with a county attorney trying you for manslaughter. The freight will arrive when it arrives. von.

    Years ago I did run wild, with 2 log books. Back then no recorders, no multi state data bases, & a simple chaufer license. Back then you could get away with it. Seen to many burnt out cars & trucks, to many crushed semi cabs, white sheets covering the remains. With real time tracking or the ability to do so, you will behave in this business if you want to stay in it. Options for drivers now days are limited compared to 40 years ago. When truck drivers are paid miles & hourly for everything they do then this will be a great job.

    The big thing that sticks out is 13 hours doing business @ a customer & nothing mentioned about being paid for every hour there. Until drivers are paid for ALL their work, they will continue to suffer. von.

    I used to be late about 10% of the time. And when I was, I always told them I would be late when I accepted the load. Being late was usually a problem with the receiver not so much with dispatch. Funny thing, when the loads were being set up & dispatched to the driver, almost always they never checked with me to see if I could or was willing to get it there based on how tired or sick I was. Pulled a reefer for about 5 years & learned I always had to wait when I got there, even on time. So, I arrived when I arrived, not a moment before or a moment after. And some times I had to wait another day. But I accepted it, rather than risk killing myself. von.

    Thanks. I am retired 3 years now with 40 years in the bis. I usually hang out over @ truckingboards.com. I like this forum for the different stories about shippers & receivers. I started driving a semi 45 years ago with a simple chauffer's license & simpler rules. The industry has changed for the good I think. My last 20 years was with ABF Freight on the city board. I have used my own dash cam long before they started putting them in the trucks. Forward facing I like. Driver facing, I would take a dock bid & stop driving. When drivers are paid for EVERYTHING they do then most issues with drivers will go away. And I believe it will happen. I think the current climate of not enough drivers will help the pay & how I am paid issue. But it will take time. Be safe. von.

    Funny Story;
    I worked for an expediter. At a Ford stamping plant I had to go to, known for taking forever, the shipping guy said it would be awhile. I said "That's fine. I get paid by the hour" and put in the ear-buds, relaxed and closed my eyes. 5 minutes later "OK, you're loaded". My dispatcher didn't have anything for me to do because he was expecting me to be there for another 4+ hours. The only thing I can figure is it drove these bitter union guys nuts to think I was getting paid to do even less than they were. The dispatcher started sending me there more, I was always in and out in no time compared to the other company drivers.
