I text a m
I text a locally known CAT diesel repair guy who was not successful when trying to help me about a year ago. "DAVENPORT DIESEL " is the name he goes under,
Nice fella, but I think he's busy as I have tried religiously to reach him for 7 month's now but he doesn't reply. I think it may be over his head or way too challenging for him, which I understand.
Many tech's simply open the shop door and say " well try that and see what happens. " but nobody to follow my issue, no shop who still has a sense of caring.
CAT C15 /6NZ trouble continues

I just installed the new air intake sensor. The only sensors left are the one on rear corner of oil pan and coolant temp sensor, although I'm told by CAT diagnostics they work fine.
CAT said the oil temp is not via a oil temp sensor, they said the oil temp is calculated by the ECM collecting data from oil pressure and coolant temp.
So then what is threaded into my rear Lower oil pan, it has 2 flat blades and 2 separate wires going to it, one wire per blade. Anybody know ? I would think one is oil temp, and the other probably the same with one feed to the gauge and the 2nd blade going to the ECM with oil temp. But CAT said otherwise. -
It is install by peterbilt for a oil temp gauge. Both wires are needed to run the gauge.
Your cat dealer is correct, the ecm does not monitor oil temp.SAR, Oxbow, Cat sdp and 1 other person Thank this. -
You said slight head gasket leak. Was it leaking fire ring? Worked on one that would only miss under a load and was 2 bad injectors. Head gasket later failed on those two holes from the excessive cylinder pressure in those holes.
bigguns, Rideandrepair, SAR and 3 others Thank this. -

I read on a thread some time ago, that if you unplug the ecm while it’s download a file, it would erase everything in the ecm. So your basically starting with a blank ecm. Then you could download a new flash file program. A 7cz on a 6nz is what I usually read that goes well. Oh but wait..... you still have a little left on your warranty. Was just a thought.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
It also could corrupt the ecm rendering it a brick. A wash file is the only correct way to blank one.
snowman_w900, bigguns, Rideandrepair and 4 others Thank this. -
At some point you have to say F the warranty and fix it however you can........
bigguns, Rideandrepair, spsauerland and 2 others Thank this. -
Isn't there anybody on this forum that is near the OP that can help him with a test ECM or reprogram it or whatever it is that has to be done? Or maybe you can cross paths while you are working?
There has to be somebody that can help this man.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I tried to send him one to try out. We 'talked' by pm. He told me that it would be a very costly process to get it across the border because of Canadian laws. If anyone can provide a better way I would still be willing to let him borrow mine.
