I have managed to survive 3 layoffs, however it is highly probable that I won't survive an upcoming 4th layoff (the word is that it will happen sometime in the next few weeks). So before it happens I am trying to take some initiative in figuring out "life after".
Some background:
1) Trained as a Class A driver (with TX endorsements) by an oilfield services company.
2) 3 months solo driving on mountain/off-road/snow/ice (yeah, I loved the 17% grades with 100k pounds - no not really). BTW - a good day is when chains aren't requiredor at the very least when we only have to chain one set of drives and a drag.
3) 6 wks of in-house driver training (1 wk of classroom, 3 wks with trainer, and 2 wks teamed)
So here are some questions:
1) In many cases, otr experience is required - what is considered over the road? In my case I had to travel highways to get to the lease roads, does that count?
2) When the ad states it is looking for experienced drivers, at what point is a driver considered "experienced"?
3) While most of our runs are 3-4 days long (1-2 days of which are sitting in BFE waiting to do something), I don't know if long-haul would appeal to me - what should I consider in making that decision?
Any other thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
What options do I have?
