I'm in CDL school & plan on pursuing the Flatbed division - have my eye on two companies around Jacksonville, FL - Daytona area
Is there a good Glove Brand that's durable, made of quality material, weatherproof, excellent grip (not sure if you need to also have Shock Resistant) - Any suggestions would be helpful...
Also have a separate general question targeting Owner Operators - no one talks about these beautiful Mack Anthemtrucks? I know they are new & have their own engine M8 is there anything bad worth knowing about the truck? I'm just curious & find the trucks looking nice! Personally I like the KW 900L w/Cat or Cummins in it...
One more question: I'm tall, do companies have larger than 72" sleepers stashed in the back of their yards? Do they have a few extended cabs in the yard or thats a silly question since they probably get their best discount leasing a whole bunch of the same vehicles directly from the manufacturers/dealership? Sleeps a safety issue, if you ain't getting proper sleep cause the bed is too small, you're a liability on the road & with me, safety is the first priority here (mine & for the others on the road around me)?
What's a good Brand for Flatbed Gloves?

I use the gorilla grip gloves. They are $5 at Walmart and last a surprisingly long time. If the glove is too loose or has a liner on the inside it doesn’t let you grip the straps well when I throw them over the load.
Grease Monkey Gorilla Grip Large Gloves (3-Pair)-25077-060 - The Home Depot
I use leather palm and finger gloves with chains because they can pinch your hand which doesn’t really hurt but it’s annoying when it happens 50 times. Here I use the husky basic leather palm and finger, black cloth on the back.
Husky Medium Goat Leather Medium Duty Glove (3-Pack)-GA8909-M - The Home Depot
As for sleepers, my w900 with a 72 sleeper is huge inside. Its 84” wide. You’d have to be ridiculously tall to not be able to sleep.Last edited: Jan 18, 2019
ethelcurtis, IluvCATS and RussianBearTruckeR Thank this. -
appreciate the suggestions! Didn't know that the sleepers were that wide, if you need a few more inches in length, you can sleep diagonally - so it works out

As a flatbedder i think a good pair of gloves is one of the most important tool... Ive been thru atleast 30 pairs of gloves before i found some that didnt rip... I dont really like leather gloves because they are bulky and snag easily plus when they get wet they are ruined.. The gloves i have are a copany called black canyon outfitters, i have the hi impact gloves , used by mechanics.. It has protection on fingers and knuckles.. Its the only pair of gloves that ive owned that havent ripped, ive had them about 6 months now and they are still as good as new , ive used them in the snow in the rain in the heat and in the cold,, after they get wet they dont get crinkled up and crusty they are still like new after drying out.. I would never buy another pair.. They are about 20 bucks but they last a lifetime
Lost Navigator, JonJon78, LoneCowboy and 1 other person Thank this. -
I consider gloves disposable. With that said, I use a good pair of leather gloves never allowing them to get wet. And keep a spare in case they did.
In steel with a thousand cuts and the associated boost to your nutrition it is not difficult to go through several gloves a year. So with that said, I use basic walmart gloves with leather on them. And mechanix gloves which are relatively new, we did not have that type in my time until the last 10 years or so.
There is usually one pair of quality gloves that stay in the cab for things like winter weather etc. So a glove for everything.RussianBearTruckeR Thanks this. -
I have yet to find a pair that doesn’t rip apart after a month or less of use...
Highway Sailor, IluvCATS, JonJon78 and 2 others Thank this. -
I go thru pair every couple weeks, putting on bungees wear them out quicker. Just tried looking for gloves on Amazon, you described but no joy. can post link of the gloves?

Found these that match what people on here are describing - Noticed they also feature abrasion resistant (Kevlar lined - which could definitely come in handy & couldn't hurt as a precaution for securing freight...) If someone has had a positive experience with these or something similar to vouch it would help - I just searched based on the consensus of descriptions provided... Thanks for those suggestions all!
