I left Superior Carriers last year, and made the move to Highway Transport. I started here in October of 2018. I live in the Atlanta Georgia area. And I run the system. I’m home every other weekend. I was given a new 2019 Mack Anthem. If anyone is considering this company, I can answer some questions. I’m loving the smaller company feel.

Seems to be plenty of work in the La Porte area. Everyone in the office and shop are extremely nice and helpful. They have a lot of daycabs and regional trucks.

For as nice as Superior seems to be, they also seem to have a high turnover. Can you say why you left? I'm sorry if I missed it, or dont remember

I was also wondering what inspired the change. What does Highway offer that interested you? Where is their Atlanta area terminal? Do they have regional work?

I was with Superior for almost 6 years. That’s the longest I’ve stayed at one company. Superior was getting too big. When I started there, they were just over 1000 trucks. When I left, they were at 1500. I could see little things changing. It’s hard to explain. The biggest reason was I just got bored. Highway, has around 350 trucks.

I changed to Highway, because it was a smaller company, and the pay is a little better overall. Also Highways’ loads are mainly from Dow Chemical. Most all my loads are preloaded, delivering to Dow customers. I haven’t had any issues unloading. Like not having enough room to unload my tank.

Highway doesn’t have a terminal in Atlanta. I park at the tank wash in Conley. Most of the time my load from the house, is in Knoxville. I’m paid to deadhead up there to pick it up.

Highway does have regional and local work in some areas. For Atlanta, the regional work is out of McDonough. The regional guys are usually home thru the week and every weekend.

I’m enjoying the system work. We don’t generally go past I-35. For my hometime, I usually take off for three days. System drivers stay in the newest trucks. They come with a fridge and microwave. System drivers get a bonus every quarter for the amount of miles you ran for the previous quarter. I haven’t got mine yet, but in general I heard it was around $1000.

I know numbers can be misleading, but can you make what they advertise as far as pay?

Yes. I spoke to the driver that made over $90k. He works his ### off. I think it would be pretty hard to accomplish. He’s also on the upper tier of the pay scale. The mileage pay is based on how many years you’ve pulled a tank, that they can verify. I’m looking at being around $80k for the year.
