THIS IS JUST A QUICK UPDATE WE ARE HEADING INTO OUR FINAL DAY OF OUR FIRST WEEK. WE ARE GOING TO SEE AND DO OUR FIRST PRE-TRIP TOMORROW AND DO SOME HOOK AND DROP AND SOME STRAIGHT LINE BACKING AND SOME DRIVING WITH A TRAILER. THIS WEEK AT TIMES HAS SEEMED SO SLOW AS WE HAVE BEEN MOSTLY IN THE CLASSROOM BUT IN ACTUALLITY WE HAVE 1/3 ALREADY DONE!! A FEW THINGS HAVE NOT TURNED OUT AS WE EXPECTED, FIRST OF TWO OF US WERE LET GO YESTERDAY FOR WHAT THEY WERE TOLD WAS LACK OF FREIGHT. BUT THEY WERE THE ONLY TWO WITH ACTUAL CDL LISCENSE'S SO WE WONDER WHAT THE REAL REASON MIGHT BE.. DIRT GOOD LUCK TO YOU YOUR A GOOD GUY AND BEST OF LUCK TO YOU THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
THE CUT IN TRAINING PAY CAME AS A SURPRISE, EVEN THOUGH WERE STILL ABOUT THE HIGHEST PAID, IT STILL WAS SUPPOSE TO BE PASSED ALONG TO US, BUT WAS NOT UNTIL THE THE SECOND DAY HERE. THE TRAINERS PAY ALSO WAS CUT. SO AT LEAST THATS MORE OF A ACROSS THE BOARD THING. THE LAST THING WAS THAT THERE WAS ELEVEN OF US IN CLASS WHEN THEY SAY THAT ALL THERE WILL BE IS SIX.
THOSE ARE THE SURPRISES AND WHERE WE ARE AT IN CLASS. OTHER THAN THOSE THINGS WE ARE HAVING AGOOD TIME LEARNING, AND MY GOD THERE IS ALOT TO LEARN! SRICK 773 STOPPED BY AND WANTED TO SAY THANKS!! ALOT OF HELPFUL INFO THERE AND STILL LOOKING FOR SPANKY SO IS SRICK 773 LOL!! TILL LATER :biggrin_255:SPANKY...

I will admit i had a good time while i was there, the instructor was great, a whole lot of fun. I had a blast out of the guys i met here on the forum.
I hope you all do great and dont have anymore surprises.
I did read that millis is now in a hiring freeze. I wonder if me and Imike got let go because of our cdl or the order in which we applied(the last 2).
keep me informed on how things are going for you guys. and let me know how jeff responds when you drive past a bunch of farm animals. lol

    Whatever the reason - it was 110% B.S. !

They should have there S*** together before they drag people here.

As far as farm animals - he'll have to beat me to them :biggrin_2551:

we just finished 3 weeks of training in richfield wi and the 3 day orientation
srick came by one day to say hi to everyone but spanky never came by to say either
when i mentioned to him to come by and say hi he said he was real busy and wasnt sure if he'd be getting up that way OR have the time
seems like most of the drivers had plenty of time once they hit the terminal and how long does it really take to say hi?!
good luck to you guys that had problems with the school

That would be me....after several months of research, it didn't really hit me until I started doing it. Gregg is a great instructor and seems to be a good guy. The actual driving/backing is not too bad, the downshifting can be tricky, but that is something that would come with time. The thought of driving day in/day out is just something that I do not believe, I would want to do. To those left in class, good luck to you and stay safe.

I would recommend Millis Transfer to any one looking at starting in trucking, just do a lot of soul searching, before you sign the dotted line.

Here is some info for someone looking at Millis Transfer. I started at Millis on March 2, 2009 at the Cartersville, GA training school, I left there on March 12, 2009. I left because I figured out that driving a big rig every day was not I wanted to do.

    The school
The school is 3 weeks long and fast paced. You show up on Monday and you will be in a truck on Wendsday, and by Friday you will be on the road (bobtail). The instructor is very good and will teach you right if you listen. The first week is some classroom and some hands on. The second week is some driving (with trailer) and mostly backing. Backing test on the Friday of the second week. The third week is all driving...interstate, two lane and up/down mountains. Fast paced but if you listen you will learn. After 3 weeks of school, you have 3 days orintation then out with a trainer.

    The cost
The cost for this training breaks down as follows:
School: $100 mailed in $400 first day of school
$2000 to be paid in payments $20.00 weekly
Hands on training (out with trainer 4-6 weeks): $2500
    Total : $5000
You will pay the cost for school ($2500) but if you drive for them at least a year the other $2500 will be waived. If you leave during school you will owe the $2500 for school, but not the $2500 for hands on training.

I hope this helps anyone who is thinking of going. I would recommed Millis Transfer, as everyone I spoke with seemed to like working there. Just make sure this is what you really want before you sign the dotted line. Take care and drive safe.

Unless you got a call from Mike or Jazz I wouldnt worry about the hiring freeze. You also dont know why they chose to let 2 people go from class.
What they stated as reasons my not have been the reasons but may have been the politically correct things to say at the time.
We will never know will we.
If you are already scheduled to go then I would remain confident that you will be going to a good school and that you will be trained by a good teacher very soon.
Look at the glass as half full for a change!:biggrin_25525:
    peace
