Hello,
I'm a student interested in the trucking industry and currently writing a paper on how technology is impacting drivers. I was hoping to ask you all a few general and specific questions about some of the freight matching services I've read about online and how they operate. Since I know very little about the industry, your professional insight would be extremely helpful!
1. Do you use either Convoy or Transfix? If so how hard was it to sign up and begin using the service?
2. How often do you typically use Convoy or Transfix per week or per month?
3. Do either of these companies have a referral program to get you to sign other drivers up for the app? If so how did it work?
5. If you don’t use either of these companies, but you’ve heard of them, what has prevented you from signing up?
6. If you currently use Convoy or Transfix for only some of your jobs, what is the reason you don’t use them more often?
7. Can someone please explain the difference difference between driving a lowboy trailer and a regular dry van? What types of companies hire you to use a lowboy?
Thank you for clarifying how these services work from the drivers perspective!

I don't do apps or anything for paperwork except by courier trip pack, long ago.
There is a BIG difference between Lowboy and Dry van. You have weight high of gravity with big equiptment and securement standards according to weight and how many chain etc to put on it. Dry van is easy, toss the pallets in, slam doors and drive. Thats one reason I don't do dry van. It's mindless to me. Now a lowboy? That's challenging. You have to drive them a certain way among other problems like avoiding high crown roadways, rail crossings and so on. It takes a special driver to run lowboy. -
Thanks for explaining the LowBoy difference to me. Can I ask why you haven't tried using any apps? You're obviously pretty good with technology because you're using this forum, so I'm assuming there might be another reason you don't use the apps.

Drivers don't use these as the norm, owner operators may but I do not see an advantage of either of them.
Also as I do with all of these types of threads, what school do you go to? -
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm a graduate student in the online MBA program at Grand Canyon University.
Can you help me understand why these services aren't beneficial to use? From what I've read, it seems to make sense for a driver to just easily match with a shipper via an app and find a new load on the return trip as well. Are a lot of drivers in the industry talking about these apps? -
JReding Thanks this.

lol I am a student and I didn't know where to go to ask these types of questions so I just signed up for this forum because I wanted to hear from drivers and not news articles.
