ROADMAC379 im sorry to hear about your experience. There are plenty of companies out there, hope you find one soon. if you went to driving school alot of companies think of that as if you had 2 years experience anyway so if you mention that then maybe you might get on with someone.

Now what driving school recruiter told you that ? No company I know of requiring 2 years OTR will accept a graduate right out of school .

No recruiter told me that the local company I went to wanted 4 years otr, I had 2. Told them I went to trucking school they said thats good enough and hired me on the spot.

I appreciate the encouragement but driving school grad does NOT qualify as 2 yrs experience... I only wish lol... I believe its more of an insurance deal with not having the experience and thus being more of a 'liability' on the road.
I have many offers for local driving and utilizing my CDL as a class B driver but its just not the same, I guess I'll stay with Miles and be a local farm driver lol.
BTW Swift had offered me to come to their company but I think I might make a pass on that one, although I could use it to make my experience and get in with a better company later... Oh Well.....
And Dukefan, I'm not saying USA is all bad, it just wasn't for me, every company has its ups and downs and everyone sees it in a different way. I was just not very happy with my fleet manager or the delays and detention pay really sucked but it may have changed by now, doubtful but might. They also bring in a TON of new drivers from driving school and that is no joke at all, and then they will tend to drive the wheels off those trucks for a cheaper pay!!

    Good Luck and be safe!

Ya i am killing time and reading posts so-
NONE of these companies seem to consider that there are vegetarians among the ranks,I am one, and if I am correct, you can use that Smith system to lower your auto insurance.Check w/whomever you have it with and see.
Good luck in your new carrer and overlook my boredom as i wait on getting back up in a truck after a time out.I am about to turn in my app and just reading up on what newbies and all go thru in their deisre to drive a big truck.Overall, i am impressed w/the excellent attitudes.that was an FYI and not worth much-

If you have the time in Van Buren,,,,,

Walk to the downtown, it's about 6 miles r/t but the company didn't seem to have a problem with me doing it.

There are three nice resturaunts down there and I'm sure they appreciate the buisness. Sisters (Cafe? Catering?) Has an awsome southwest breakfast. There's a new place in an old saloon (name escapes me) with an all you can eat sunday brunch. And a Mexican resturaunt (haven't been there yet).

Be on your best behavior though, I don't know if any of the corporate types go there. And all it takes is one driver trying to score meth downtown to turn the terminal into a lockdown facility. So, DON'T SCREW IT UP FOR THE REST OF US!

Also you can't bobtail over there AFAIK because the downtown district is to tight even for tractors. But you might be able to find a spot to park closer than the terminal. I haven't looked yet.

Apparently, and great for you,you are not obese or too out of shape to walk/hike/trek that 6 mile round trip to the downtown area. The company probably knows that you walk and will use you as some form of company advertisement to state that
"our company stresses excellent physical condition and makes sure that our drivers stay in good shape. Our insurance premiums remain low due to our in better shape drivers.Just look at this example of one of our fit minded drivers doing his part to keep our premiums low overall".
