Moos.. Try to find a company that is self insured.. Most of the flack your catching is really not the companies..But thier Insurance carriers..
Those companies that are self insured have more lee-way..
And did they dispatch you to pull that outta service trlr...If they did what happened to the dispatcher??

I made two mistakes in my career in trucking. Knight and Swift...well three, I forgot Jb Buttcheeks. But anyways, I was terminated by Swift day before Thanksgiving and still looking for a job. The reason I was fired was because I was late delivering a load. They gave me the service failure and terminated me. This is what happened. I sat in Danville, VA for 2 days straight with no load I bugged and bugged dispatch for a load so they just up and gave me a repower load picking up from Mount Airy, NC to be delivered by midnight in Dunn, NC. I look at my watch and it's 10:30pm and it's a 4hr drive from mount airy to dunn. I told night dispatch there's no way in blue hell I was going to make it. They said just do it and they will push up the delivery time after I told them when I could be there. So I drive a hour from danville to mount airy to pick up this load from another driver. When I get there I find out the guy has sat all day long waiting for someone to pickup the load from him. Apparently 2 other drivers attempted to pickup this load but ran out of ours when they got there!! So we have 3 swift drivers sitting side by side by side with no hours, yes im laughing as im typing this. The driver that has the load told me "I picked up this load in Michigan but when I got close to NC I realized I was going to run out of ours" (I bobtailed in to pick up this load by the way) he then asks me "where's your empty? I was suppose to get a empty" I told him I didn't have one and then he tells me the other driver next to him has the paper work. So I had to wake up the other driver to get the bills. Then I had to drive 4hrs to Dunn. I told dispatch I would be there around 4:45am and they said they would call ahead, I knew better that they wouldn't and I was right. But I did get the load there at 4:45am like I said I would. But I got a service failure for that load and then two weeks later (day before thanksgiving) they pull me in Columbus to tell me they are terminating me for that service failure. So to cut the bs part out of my arguement with the terminal manager and I will just add one thing he said and asked me. He asked if I knew about it and I said no. And when I told him I repowered the load from another driver he said "oh yeah I see now, well I guess you both are getting service failures and it looks like he won't have a job either" So there you have it and sorry for making it so long. So I guess when the economy gets tight compaines start chopping people for the littliest things they can find even if it means screwing a person over just to save a buck or two.

Everyone is cutting thier fleets down. We had a driver that was terminated for 5 minutes late as the story goes. As in any story there is always other things happening. Who is to say that that driver wasn't having other issues as well?
If you speed and have qualcomm they know. If you spike the breaks alot they know. If you over rev the motor they know. If you idle too much they know.
These are most likely the drivers companies are using there BS excuses to terminate.
It costs less to pull a truck out of service for a short while than to keep a driver around idling with no freight to pull. -
Your post concerns me! I work for Swift and was 38 min late on an 1100 mile load. I notified my DM the day before that I didn't feel that this load was going to be on time (per my GPS). She said just run some 500 mile days and I'd be ok. I did a 569 mile day that day on 2 lane state hwy's and left on the minute when my 10 hr break was over.
I called again and was told to send a MAC 22 (late on delivery). The consignee made a few comments, but so far no ramifications.
This worries me as they say one thing and then fire on the drop of a hat. I know the tide will turn, but I may have to get into something else if things don't improve. I guess I got into trucking without really looking at the current climate and all of the downsides to it...
