Sorry about going off on bunny trails. To answer your question, they both do about the same on fuel. However if it was me,I think I would go with the 6NZ or 2WS serial prefix,as the earlier 5EK models were known to have problems breaking the crank. If you have an earlier one,I would suggest replacing the damper on the crankshaft every 500K and adding a balancer like the one PDI sells.

Any 1999 or older 3406E will get better fuel mileage, IF and everybody needs to read this properly
If the ECM has never been reflashed since 1999
Why??????????
Those old files have a different injection timing settings in them.........the timing is advanced anywhere from 2-4 degrees depending on load conditions and RPM
The newer files have the timing retarded for emission reasons.........this uses more fuel to build the same horsepowerT800H Thanks this. -
sorry to break in...I have a 2000 2ws motor that i had uprated from 475 to 550.Also had 6999 trim codes installed.Fuel temp wire should be here anyday, straight stacks and underhood air cleaner. What kind of HP should I be getting to the rear wheels?Just curious. by the way 6999 codes really wake it up! thanks....joe

mr haney i have 1 that was uprated in canada from 475 to 550 u think it will be emissioned killed

VERY VERY true!!!!!!!! Cat has gotten really carried away with the "retarted timing" & the low Nox programs! Small exhaust manifolds, small turbine housings, fast spool-up,= less "smoke". B exhaust manifolds, MI Stage 3 or 5 turbo, or C-18 turbo, = slower spool-up, a bit more "smoke" 'til the turbo catches up but you can pull them all day. Lower EGT's, higher boost pressures, better use of the fuel we all pay dearly for.

yeah........the Aussie's have some interesting roadtrain programs, but you can't get your hands on them easly. I'm working with a guy now that's doing some testing of them here. I should be able to reflash an ECM with them shortly though.

mr haney how interesting

Is the c-18 turbo a WG turbo or non wg? and what kind of injectors would ya need to run?
-
C-18 turbo has no waste gate.

I think he meant ACERT '07 EPA and up, which use Clean Gas Induction, which I suppose is a form of EGR that is drawn post-DPF, as you guys most likely know this already.
But, If you guys mean ACERT '04 EPA, then you guys are right, no EGR at all.
