I am consistently hauling 50 in milk. My tare is 29500 truck and tank on a good day .

Too many groceries, water, fuel and ice can throw me over the edge no problem.

Oldskool, I go to papermills all the time. I see chip trucks on the scale pushing 90K lbs!
I haul out turpentine and other chemicals with a daycab Mack the
Tractor weighs 15,900 pounds with a full tank. It is a 2017 with all the regen crap.

Lol ya I see them too. A friend of mine ran heavy every load and at the end of the year grossed $10,000 more even after paying overweight tickets. I'm more worried about having a wreck being overweight than DOT's actually, but ya when I hauled logs I grossed out at 101,000 one time. It felt heavy definitely

Cascadia, not a huge fan, so much thin plastic. Fld120, built a little better. 2 years ago new door hinges and seals. Still solid. I haul hot oil by the ton. Tare 28.6-29. When Spring Gets here I can lose the chains, tow rope etc. Day cab would be a bit lighter.

On those International 9200's I notice the GVW is 52,000. Wouldn't I need a truck with a GVW of 80,000?? Sorry if this is a blonde question lol

Nope, not a blonde, and even if it was that’s better than a mean redhead question. GVWR will be the combination of the front axle and the rear axles. Or suspension in the case of the rear, I suppose. So 12k on the front and 40k on the rears gives a 52k truck. If you had a 13,200 front axle you would have 53,200 GVWR.

Your trailer also has a GVWR, so that’s what allows your GCWR (Gross Combination Weight Rating) to equal or exceed 80,000 lbs.

Trailers usually have a GVWR greater than the sum of the two or three axles on them, which is something I don’t really understand either.

I had a valid alternator loss on a older rig before computers in Fredericksburg VA (Rte 17/I-95 truck stop)leaving me running on air breathing Diesel as long that fuel pump can spin off batteries. I turned off everything, even pulled the trailer pig tail. (that's a no no...) Company instructed me to get to Harbor in Baltimore south where they had big shops.

Let's see 10 am, dead everything except batteries and off we go. 4 hours and made it through the DC and so on.

That was a heck of a trip. One of the reasons i remember it well. 9.4 volts and falling with the tunnels or not decision pending. Today's computer trucks usually brick at 10 or less.

Same thing happened to me with my mechanical cat. Alt took a dump and I made all the way across PA headed for Pocono Peterbilt (open 24hrs) but 15-20 mile before I got there a cop stops me and said my headlights were dim. I told him what was up where I was going but he made me put my triangles out for 2-3 hours till daylight. I shut everything off but the engine knowing it wouldn't start. When it just started to turn daylight I took off and made it. Parked on the hill at peterbilt and changed Alt myself bump started it and made delivery in CT.
