How is experience verified outside of the DAC? Obviously many of the decent trucking gigs are given to people with 2+ years of experience. I have 18 years of experience driving in the military but obviously this won't show up on my DAC. No CDL as they aren't required. Will an employer take that into consideration for a gig requiring experience or will I need to start at the bottom of the barrel with a Mega? Worst case, I can grind it out with a mega and use military apprenticeship to supplement my income. But I'd certainly rather work for a smaller company and put my experience to use.

    Any input is appreciated.

after 30 years my Hire Right is blank, nothing good or bad. So then they have to wait for the previous employers to respond, which may never happen.

I've got over 30 years experience, no accidents, no pts.8yrs flatbed,7yrs reefer, many yrs various equip,A and B always 80klbs or better.Got hurt bad in 04,2 bad surgeries. Haven't worked since then except 3yrs local driving, triaxle dump, nite shift paving, stopped that, too much climbing, back started acting up.Anyway I lost weight, toned up,tired of staying home, put it out on the Indeed site looking for OTR.The next 3 days the phone was going nuts, I must have talked to 30 different recruiters, every one was a 20-30yr old fast talking girl,I say girl cause they all sounded like they just got home from the prom. They all had the same rap too,1yr verifiable OTR experience or we can't help you.I believe most of the megas just want bodies they can put in a truck cheap,38CPM and team w/a trainer to get them free miles and If they can get you for other things like schooling, even better.WE is the only one that would take me, and they want to lock me into a 2yr contract.Thank God, I found this site.On this site you can get any information you need to help you find and prepare for getting into the trucking industry. What to look for and what to look out for.And it's entertaining.Just browse the forums for what your looking for, stay away from Lease Purchase and Contracts(not for me ,maybe for you)and if all else fails holler out for Chinatown (he's a trucking company guru). So have at it,Good Luck and thank you for your service,I'll never forget. What was the ? again.

    Thanks for replies!

This forum has definitely soaked up a lot of my free time. I've been doing a ton of research and have a good idea of the path I want to take. It's just a bummer, if it's the case, that I need to grind out unnecessary time at a Mega just to check a box. I have some time to get my ducks in a row but the "experience" thing is a buzzkill.

usually, a letter on company paper, detailing your hire date, end date, and what types of work you did, and what types of equipment you operated suffice for a "verified" experience.

that's what i had to obtain from 2 former employers i worked for. i kept those letters for the longest time (after the 10 year period dropped off for them)
