Slow ... do you get any affiliate marketing revenue from these companies?
Just kidding ... good advice
The reason we look at them was to replace some of the problematic 10 meter junk in fleet acquired trucks. I ended up going used cobra 29 and Washington, having them aligned and tuned with new antenna systems.

EBay for KL203. Overseas ship.
Hell, I oughta get a bronze plaque for the dashboard, much as I’ve spent. Ha!mrcllusb Thanks this. -

Yes. Carried away. What you see there has been apart & back together a number of times. Not all is shown.
Today have it broken apart again to fit the NIB Yaesu FT450D I recently acquired. Time to learn to use it a week or so before handing off to son home on rotation from Mid East.
Next Amazon order will have ARRL test guidebooks.mrcllusb Thanks this. -
I'm going to start with replacing my firestik with a 7' skipshooter and add the KL203. Get that tuned and see where I'm at.
Slowmover1 Thanks this. -
That's your setup you strap in the seat correct?
Slowmover1 Thanks this. -
The TAC COMM TRC-1 Radio Carrier would be my choice for a passenger seat radio that fully encloses all gear I’ve advocated. The 980, amp, speaker, etc.
The little RigRunner was my excuse to finally start using Anderson PowerPoles. (See POWERWERX).
Have been using ANCOR Marine Grade wire and terminations since they started. (See WAYTEK). -
By tonight or tomorrow I’ll have the 450 looking like this.
Yeah. The, uh, “Portable Base Station”
Can’t afford guns, drugs, horses, wimmens, etc.
But my other project is my all-Aluminum travel trailer. Where a Base station WILL be established. And something good for my pickup.
Then there’s my sons home and car.
So it’s a running experiment on which I spend too much (compared to my brother truck drivers).
I know just enough not to electrocute myself. -
The speaker will make more of a change.
Hear, first. Transmit, second (if one wants an order of priority, IMO).
In other words, use an SWR external meter on the F-stik.
Check Coax for condition (ohmmeter). Replace with RG8X if not a terrible job.
And clean power. Filter, and new leads to BATT. (Even a BANDIT filter helps some).
(Power leads can get expensive for quality. Measure twice and order custom from POWERWERX).
I used zip cord of 22’ in 10-ga paired in unequal lengths to mix and match those lengths to run power. Try several configurations
Then speaker.
Then amp & Skipshooter.Last edited: Jan 30, 2019
