Was let go by TMC last Friday

it is against the law to fire sombody for military duties. in other words if uncle sam says come, they have to hold your job, even if you volunteer(join, go to bootcamp, etc... or volinteer to be activated as a reservist or weekend drills.)

 

Thanks for the information, but by service I meant a truck service. I do appreciate the concern however. Just a side note, he is still employed with TMC and now on a dedicated account.

There is a difference between "in the military" and "active duty". Active duty= safe. In the military=just like anyone else. Just clearing up what I meant.

I'm getting pretty disillusioned with the industry in general right now, as I am making the equivalent of $4.50/hr. Ouch.

 

I am in Michigan, I drive for NTB out of Grand Rapids (Byron Center) home 2 days a week and out 5 , regional work , mostly Meijer, Ice mountain and Absopure water, some Target if your from the Kalamazoo area... steady work all winter , I had 2200 mile last week with the short haul bonus pay I grossed over $700

 

I am very worried about all the layoffs/terminations going on. Does anyone know the reasons behind this? are they picking random drivers?

active duty is just that, active....every day

inactive (most TPU reservists and guardsmen) duty soldiers can be called at any time to perform military duties, be it title 10, ADSW or just plain IADT.
you cannot be "let go" from your civilian job becuase of military conflicts in scheduling (read: two IADT weeks, drill or BTA, training, ect)

if what you are saying was true a civlian employer could fire any employee who had to be called in to serve during floods, fires or other natuaral disasters


if an employer was to do this, by law the now-unemployed service member is entitled to full re-instatement, plus all pays due during the unemployed period....plus the employer gets a hefty fine, and cannot participate in government bid jobs for a set amount of time

I'm with you on the dissilusioned bit, except my allturnitive is either going back to work on the family farm or learning the line "Do you want fries with that"?
