I spent the last 18 years working at a chemical plant and believe me it's not just the trucking companies.I sat and listened to grown people bi*** about this stinking company for hours. They would sit on their ##### for 11 hours complaining about how the company treated them and collect that check.I am of the thought that if you are unhappy with your job or company you work for here is a idea!" Start your own company and run it the way you want to because after seeing how unfair all the companies you have worked for are you would do a much better job." at least then you could solve the problem.

The difference is that if you work as a OTR driver you can't just walk out the door get in your car and say bye. You have lots of hoops to jump through or they (the trucking outfit) will make the mere act of quitting the least of your problems. So many chose to stick it out and let off steam after talking to themselves for weeks at a time.

It seems if you give a company a minimum 2 weeks notice they should be able to tie up all the loose ends. The problem is you can't just walk off the job in otr trucking and get away with it. This could be seen as either a good thing or a bad thing I suppose. I've always believed in having a new job lined up prior to quiting your current one regardless of how much you hate your current gig.
I think that is a good guideline to follow, swallow your pride and do what is best for yourself and your family. -
I won't give you any flack at all. I have been doing this local and otr for 13 years now. So much of what is said on here is true. Yes there are a TON of whiners out there for sure and a ton of tall stories to boot. I can tell you this... I dropped out of high school when I was 16. My Dad wouldn't let me be a bum so he taught me to finish concrete. I did that and also ended up running his flatwork business by the time I was 20. I worked 15 hours a day 7 days a week busting my butt. I shut the business down because I no longer wanted the responsibility of it at 20. I still wanted to party. Anyway... Then I got a job driving a ready mix truck. I have done things in a cement truck that would make most otr drivers puke and cry home to mommy. That was during the boom here in Denver. I worked 14 and 15 hour days 6 days a week. I have run end dumps and side dumps and belly dumps and concrete pumps.. this was all before I decided to go over the road. These companies told me I HAD NO EXPERIENCE... Werner, Jb, Knight... you name it I tried to get on. They made me go to school!!! The school was even blown away, so you know what? I ended up helping teach the class I was in and then offered a job when we finished. I declined and went with Weener. Since that nightmare I have been with a couple of companies, finally ending up with a small company out here in Denver. They were cool as hell. I had a brand new Pete and I called the shots.... I do not whine or complain EVER. If you look hard enough there are a few companies worth your time out there. But trucking is a HARD world and nothing like cooking in a kitchen or even running one. Good luck to you

I have been a driver for about 17 years. I have worked hard all my life. Even in grade school I shoveled snow on snow days, did odd jobs to earn a few cents.
What is being exchanged here is useful information.
The truth is that most of these companies don't deserve good drivers. They lie to get you on. Then proceede to treat you like something they stepped in!
We really don't know what we are getting into til we hire on to a company and see what happens. Going from job to job reduces a drivers chance to get hired elsewhere. So we need a heads up!
Life for some of you guys may be all sunshine and lollipops! But for a lot of hard working drivers out there this is not just BI&*%$%#!!!
This is useful information to help make in infromed decision about where we want to work.

Just how is it that 95% of all Drivers have been driving 16-17 years ?
Why live a lie ? you know your only fooling the cyber world with that lie.
You cant spot a 3-5 year "School Fish" in 6 words or less.
Earn your way, nobody owes you anything. -
So are u saying just because your mama squeezed you out of the shoot sooner that someone driving for the last 5 years can't be nearly as good a driver as you?
