Good day , i need an honest assessment of the current market and where we see it going. Not looking for specifics just general based on experience. Iam working on becoming an owner op, found my truck priced at 45, with 15 starting capital..signing on with a carrier who pays 90% of load, they handle all back office stuff and collecting of money. With out knowing all the variables mostly fuel but figured out on the high hand. With my pay included we come up with 1.70pm in operating cost. My question is can i be successful in this current market? Thank you for the help in advance and please i know thr market is down from last year, but last year is not the norm.

    brake455 and Rideandrepair Thank this.

I see. Well, it depends then doesn't it? What kind of freight, trailer, lanes, etc. If you surmise your operating costs are going to be $1.70 a mile, are you confident you can run enough freight above that baseline to be profitable?

And tis is the problem i am running into. There is very limited info out there that tells me anything important too figue out current market. So much hush hush dont blame ppl who wants more competition. But i plan too stay midwest, northeast south and southeast. Iam gonna start with van and then move too reefer whem the debt gets smaller too increase potential with lower DH

If your pay is included at 1.70, can you afford to run cheaper and for how long before you realize parking it may be the better business decision?

Question is, does that $1.70 include your pay?

Best thing to do then would be to start searching the loadboards for the particular lanes you're interested in.

In the search criteria, highlight the "highest rate" parameter. You can use that as a barometer. Take it with a grain of salt. As far as accessing the pay for boards, you'll probably need to know someone that has a paid membership.

If you want my honest opinion, my advice would be to sit tight this year, especially if you have a decent company position, and take a wait and see attitude. There's a lot of good paying company opportunities right now.

I would not have adviced that last year.

I guess it all boils down to, how hard do you want to run and if you can stay away from the low paying freight.

    Where do you live?

Most guys I see hang out in the Midwest and do a triangle, staying in The higher-paying lanes.
