Hi Fellow experienced Drivers. My truck broke down in Des Moines IA this past Saturday and I am from New Jersey. The mechanic where I brought the truck to is charging over $5000 to fix and that is just an estimate because until he brings everything down he won't know for sure what the problem is. I can't afford that, so I was thinking of renting a flat bed and hauling my truck back to NJ. I have friends who are mechanics so the price to fix would be significantly less not to mention I can pay them little by little. What would be the best way to haul my truck back? Any suggestions? I am very open to advice .

You need a double drop and take the stacks off to lower the truck maybe the wheels also, check with a flatbed company

Maybe try IMT Truck. I dont really know much about the other than that they are from Garner, Ia and specialize in transporting trucks. Theyd sure be able to point you in the right direction.

Do you know anyone with a hook and a truck in your home town. If so see if they will come and get it.
If not call a tow truck. Good luck

What kind of truck is it? If it’s a flattop or midroof it could go on a regular stepdeck provided that the top stacks are removed if you have vertical exhaust. If it’s a condo it will have to go on a double drop.

See if any of the mechanics you know happen to know of a 5th wheel wrecker that could be rented and put on one of your buddies trucks. If it has to be hauled try IMT as mentioned above. I know they haul trucks.
