Well I found the source of the electrical noise in my radio. It's my power inverter under the bunk. Soon as I turned it off noise level went to almost zero on the display. Turned it back on noise went up to 5/6. Guess I'll just turn my inverter off while I'm driving and back on when I'm done for the day.

Start by grounding the inverter case. See if that helps.mrcllusb and Slowmover1 Thank this.

Since its a company truck, I'll see what I can come up with.
-
Just checked it and there is a separate chassis ground wire that goes thru a grommet to under the truck so I'll see if I can trace where it goes tommorrow. Also grabbing a 6' Francis tomorrow.
-
Body ground, anything to get rid of the harmonics from the inverter, right now the signal is traveling all over the place - called ultrasonics - and it is transmitted throughout a large range of frequencies.
-
The ground wire goes from the inverter case to the truck body underneath. Screws down on both ends.

Got the 5.5 ft Francis installed. Better antenna than the firestik.
-
I have to say, now that I've been using this 5'5" Francis, I'm never going back to a firestik! Much better receive and transmit right out of the package. I'm thinking of changing to a mag mount Francis on my Chevy pickup!
