I've gotten a raise "voluntarily" every year since I joined my company.
By doing the very things that I outlined above.

Question: What’s the best way to insure you always move upward following each personal and professional failure, and are guaranteed regular salary increases approved by you?

Answer: Become a left wing politician

You can always raise yourself by hiring on to another employer who will pay you more.

As for asking for a raise? HAHAHAHAHA.

I disagree..I would never use others income as leverage. It's hard to prove. Just my opinion.

Negotiate. You have done your research and know what you are worth in the job market..your current employer knows your worth also. If you are an asset to the company, your request is an easy 'yes" from your company. If you are a typical OTR driver, each 1 cent increase is worth roughly 1k per year in wages. To ask for a 2 cent raise, is basically asking for 2k annual raise. Very reasonable. So go ask for it. You have nothing to loose and 2K to gain.

Most carriers have a max cents per mile pay for company drivers. Then they also have a max pay for time working for them. Best your going to make is that max CPM. If you are there now asking for more is a waste of time. Generally, carriers give raises based on time. No harm in asking I guess, just don't get your hopes up.

Cut out a pink heart out of construction paper. Inside put “roses are red violets are blue, if I don’t get a raise I won’t be working for you” then slip it under your bosses door with some chocolates.

I would fill out applications elsewhere and see what the offers are and then show your boss the offers and see if he can match one of them
