Little about myself, I’m attending school in North Alabama at the moment. should graduate this month with 160+ hours. Class A with doubles/triple, tanker & hazmat. Really interested in flatbed but will take whatever I can as long as there is good pay and benefits. What is a great cent per mile rate for a student/recent grad? What are some good companies for a student/recent grad? Must have decent-great pay please & thanks

How close are you to Huntsville where all those steel mills are? I would take note of all those companies coming in there daily. You can find a good regional outfit that can get you home regular probably running a 350 mile radius.bamakidd6 Thanks this.

Thanks, I’m an hour away from Huntsville. Don’t really mind the home time right now, I’m single with no kids. Just want a consistent good paying first job with a good amount of seat time/miles.

He's right. Especially right now because the friggin market is in a terrible slump. The eastern Europeans in Chicagoland pay the best (generally speaking) but they don't offer squat as far as benefits
bryan21384, bamakidd6 and shogun Thank this. -
@Chinatown can help. You might give Star Transportation a call, although I think they have driver facing cameras. They run a lot of Alabama, a lot of dedicated freight. Since your near I65 you are in a good area for freight.bamakidd6 Thanks this.

Will do, I really appreciate it. Just trying to get some input from people that have actually been through what I’m about to encounter. Far as driver facing cameras, what’s the downfall?

Maverick transportation is a good flatbed company.

They pretty good about hiring fresh grads?Truckermania Thanks this.

Oh yes. They hired me and it had been 2 1/2 years since I got my cdl. They will put you through 5-6 weeks altogether of orientation, securement training, and time on a trainer's truck. It really is a great starter flatbed company (and many stay for years even). Pay is excellent and where you live you could be home most weekends if you want.bamakidd6 Thanks this.

That’s great man, I really appreciate it. Definitely going to look into that. I have a short term and long term plan. Short term really doesn’t consist of too much home time, trying to make as much as possible my first year, which I know won’t be a whole lot but in the process I want to learn as much as I can.kemosabi49 and Truckermania Thank this.
