No surprise here really. From what I understand, the nail in the coffin was when they got in deep with Amazon and then Amazon starting rate-cutting. With all the volume Amazon can feed a carrier, the carrier can't really refuse.

Same thing happened to Dean Cannon some years back, anyone remember Cannon Express? Dean got in bed with Wal-Mart and the same thing happened when Wally World pulled the plug. I kinda miss seeing those trailers with that cool old civil war cannon on the sides running up and down the interstates.

Problem here is that strategy works with truckload because they're a dime-a-dozen but not LTL. You just can't start up an LTL carrier from scratch like truckload. Even UPS and FedEx with their deep pockets and transportation experience had to buy existing LTL's to get into the freight game.

So big shippers gonna feel some pain on this one. That NEMF freight has to get absorbed into existing LTL carrier networks which are already tight.

Also bad for NEMF drivers and employees but good for other LTL's and their drivers. Higher rates = more profits, more raises, and more work across the board.

They're closing up shop, driver. It's the final curtain call. NEMF stopped doing pickups and will only operate until Friday delivering the freight leftover in their system. Then they're gone like a freight train, gone like yesterday to quote Montgomery Gentry.
