Pto shaft will not come off, any tips to get it removed?

Use anti-seize when reinstalling it. Are you trying to get if off the splines of the blower input shaft/PTO output shaft or are you trying to separate u-joints?

 

When all else fails, I run for my zip gun on rusted and frozen parts.

The vibration loosens the rust bond. Theres one thing for sure.......it will move it, or ruin it coming off. But it will come off.

Alot of folk die from sticker shock, but IMO worth every penny. There are cheaper alternatives in off brands via Google.

 

Your going to have to heat the part that slides over the shaft with an oxy/acetylene torch.
Heat it up cherry red and tap it off.

 

You want a straight pull. Can you hook the come along to a shaft through the yoke? Then the other end to a chain from the bottom of the rear axle. As straight as possible. Pull it tight and use a torch and or air hammer on the yoke.
Look at that yoke real close for a set screw you over looked. If someone put it on with loc tite or sleeve retainer that stuff starts to come loose at around 350 degrees.

 

I would knock out the front u-joint and use either a 2 jaw puller or a small H bar. Run it up as tight as it’ll handle. Then hammer around the yoke to knock it loose. (With a air hammer). I’m not allowed a “Smoke wrench” in the shop. So it would probably help, but it’ll also take out any seals near it.

 

That tool is a blessing on our farm. They are handy in tough situations.

 

Oxy-acetylene he really is best for these kinds of situations. Heat expands the metal and it will come off.

 

I use a slide sledge on all pto yolks

 

Whenever we would run into a stubborn problem like this a cry would go up in the shop by my Dad "get the torch".
