I recently received a DOT physical and was granted just a one year medical card due to detection of moderate blood in my urine sample. Doctor who gave me the physical told me to go get tested for what might be causing the blood. My question to the forum is, do I HAVE to get this test done in order to have my card renewed next year? Will the doc who performs my next DOT physical be made aware (through documentardoc) of the previous results of physical performed one year earlier?
DOT Physical.. one year medical card.

I believe they now all share a medical consortium right?
But more to the point- A dot physical is a very basic physical, and should not replace a “real” annual physical at your primary physician.
Blood in your urine could be due to something minor, or it could be a sign of something much worse. Maybe spend the 150$ to find a solution rather than passing away in a sleeper 1000 miles from home? -
That was actually less to the point not more lol. But thanks for the tip. It's due to something minor. I just would like to know if I'm required to have a doctor clear me before I can get my medical card renewed.

Answer is no, but you have to answer the questions truthfully on the next physical.
I believe one of the questions is ,Have you ever been issued a one year card and why.ruudhompsor Thanks this. -
blood in the urine can be any one of a few things, kidney stones, crystals, a UT infection.
i have had been plagued with kidney stones (they start out as crystals) then the go to stones, and i have "passed" a few droplets of blood, but i have never been denied a 2 year card.
i'd say try another DOT exam at a different place?
but first and foremost, seek a doctor/specialist in Urology. i have to go for kidney ultra sounds once a year, (no big deal) and if the stone are too big, the doctor has a machine to smash them....not a big deal, until you try passing a broken up stone...ouch
drink MORE water, LESS ANY caffeinated beverages, cut down on salt, and believe it or not, cut out ALL nuts.........there is a "diet" to follow, to reduce kidney crystals/stones.
i rarely go off that diet. as i do not like shooting out stones...... -
I've been told I have a trace amount of blood in my urine for years but they never say, "oh yeah we saw that last time too" I also only get a 1 yr card because of hypertension. Have had the blood in urine thing checked several times by different docs and I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna die (yet) If you just tell them you had it checked by your primary, they'll probably believe you.
You might just try using a different medical examiner next year, although they may ask why you're on a 1 yr card. I really don't believe they share information, a lot of their decisions are discretionary. Some are more discretionary than others. Some just take your $$ and sign the card, others are afraid of having something that might lead back to them if you screw up.
I'm NOT advising you to ignore it! It's NOT gonna kill you to get it checked but it could if you DON'T... -
Moderate blood in your urine sample? See a urologist. Soon.

I had a stone a long long time ago but I will never ever forget the pain associated with that whole ordeal
Your post reminded me of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer has a kidney stone...it's easy to find on youtube, just google "Kramer passes a stone"
I don't have the skills to link it but it brings me to tears every time I watch it... -
The Human Body is a wonderful organization. If the doctor felt that something is off the rails and not working well, it behooves you to hunt the core issue down and fix it right quick as we say here in the south.6daysontheroad Thanks this.

It won't prevent another medical or be found by the doctor but should be indicated on the 'what did you have' section. The doctor should question you and hearing that it was treated should be enough...
Unlike a hypertension issue, if you deal with the problem before your next physical, and they don;t find any blood in your urine, the should issue a two year re-certification next time.
Some physicians are uber cautious; we had a bunch of problems with potential sleep apnea until Trump called them off.
Same doctor is now 'No Problem'.....Your mileage may vary and remember trucking is hard on the body; go see your doctor.x1Heavy Thanks this.
