Drums wearing a lip is normal. I'm not saying tote cans are in good shape, but a lip on drums just means they have been on there a while. Shoes dont fit perfectly flush wth the edge of the drum, so as the drum wears from normal use a lip will form. ####### techs will tel you you got to replace drying if they got a small lip formed into them but that isn't true. Even the drum manufacturers don't claim that. You have to measure the thickness of the drum at the shoe contact area with a micrometer to see if it is still thick enough or if it needs replaced.

I appreciate yall chiming in on this one. Any suggestions are humbly welcomed.
Let me back way up here so yall can see why I'm where I am. .. so a few months ago I started encountering a couple of vibration patterns which were at times pretty forkin scary. And I'm not totally clueless about determining which end it comes from by feeling in the steering wheel versus the seat, right? Well lemme tell yall, this was indecipherable. 1st thing I did was check front wheel bearings and then I had steers balanced. Still had a harmonic vibration that would make a hitchhiker say "nevermind sir I'll just walk". I'd recently gotten all new drive tires, so I made sure that none had been mismounted. My hubs are the kind that don't allow putting the rim off center ,so next I got all axle alignment. Nothing. Had a cat point out 1 u-joint that had tiny play ,and the carrier bearing tiny bit of play. ..so we put all brand new u-joints and carrier. ...nothing. Then on a clear day I was able to associate a couple of things (after reading a gang-load of truckers reports): after mashing the brake pedal a couple times, at around 35 mph, truck was hopping like Peter rabbit. I'm talking about extreme hop! Aha!!! Drums getting hot, going out of round, but then finding their own happy roundness when cooled down. (I say this because I'd already jacked it up and spun the wheels lookin for a fork in the turn, and couldn't find any) So started with the front. Paid a really cool mechanic in Shreveport to do the front and teach me as we went along. So on front we put new drums, shoes and brake-chambers.(I call em cans).
What a difference man it was a relief. Vibrationsalmost gone. Hopping down to a minimum now. Couldn't afford to get the rears done at the time, and my trailer has brand new shoes, .. so I said well I'll just use my chicken brakes for the most part until I get this all done. Now ....2 weeksago I bought 4 new drums and brakes to go with each. I did the rearest axle already. But I didn't know about these lil things to also be aware of like the cams being wore out or needing rebushed etc. So that's where I'm at. I'm up here in Erie PA right now on my way to drop in West Coxsackie NY tomorrow morning, so I plan on finding a parts house to get new cams and bushes for the entire rears. ..and I'm gonna tackle the job hopefully this weekend wherever I may be. I've got the tools. BTW did yall know that the new Milwaukie cordless impact really does bust the lug nuts off these trucks? Impressive to say the least. Anyways I gotta roll on.

My trailer brakes are wearing top shoes out on both sides , mechanic said check part numbers on pads because in my case a 4515 shoe will work on my trailer but the actual part is 4707q+ which is a much thicker pad. Common mistake by mechanic . I will be checking it all when I work on it...
