The $1500 per day was the O/O running his truck 12-14 HRS per day in East TX. West TX rates are higher but so are the expenses.

Drivers in my area (South TX) typically earn 27% so $1500x27%= $405 per day. I can tell you I know for a fact there are some CHEAP haulers that moved into our area from out of state paying their drivers just over $300 so it feels like a race to the bottom over here, LOL!

I truly hate company that do this. About 12 years ago in the city I was living we had all the gravel haulers stop their trucks and park on the side of the road for 2 weeks in protest of outsiders coming into the province and slashing the rates hard. Eventually rates were mandated so people couldn’t cut them so hard.

Did they just set a floor rate, or were you locked in both ways?

This is an interesting take into this world of trucking. I just hope you're not still paying $2500 a year for bobtail insurance. Mine is $480 a year.

No I'm paying about $3500 for everything tractor and trailer. Also I carry $1M in protection, some carriers only require $300K but one carrier I worked for wanted $1M so I just leave it there.

$1M Non Trucking Liability to others Bodily Injury and Property Damage $450
    $1M Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist $130
$1M Uninsured Motorist Property Damage $133
Comprehensive & Collision on truck (Value $55K) $1818
Comprehensive & Collision on trailer (Value $50K) $970

    Total for 1 year $3501

That's pretty good including the trailer.

Hey Rockdoc, who do you have insurance with that it's soo low? Im paying over twice that price. I'm happy with it's policy (tow reimbursement, hotel, rental car etc up to $100 daily repaid after breakdown). But not sure if my price is right??? $190 monthly for bobtail.

Also to add a quick note to the OILFIELD CRUDE HAULING UPDATE... Things are down temporarily. I believe because it's 'tax time' & that time of year, called 'seasonal lag'. I recently (almost a year ago) purchased my own truck to cash in... oops, lol. It will be back fellows, bigger & badder. Have your ducks ready!!!
