Poll: Truckers Strike - When Will Truckers Stand Together? IF Ever?

Something as serious as a strike is what is needed, but I don't ever see it happening. A few hundred will barely be noticed...it would take millions to get the job done. Yet, there will always be those drivers afraid of losing their jobs or simply could not "afford" to miss a pay check, which is all understandable. And we all know that for every driver that leaves, there are 10 waiting to take their place.... to someone who has been working for minimum wage, even $500 per week is a lot of money! I wish there could be a well-organized strike for truckers across the nation, but I believe it will never happen due to just a few of the reasons I've mentioned....

 

Is your husband OTR? and is he claiming his per diem during tax time?

Agree with all of you! Just heard today that the price is supposed to peak at $4.15/gallon for regular gas and stay that way throughout the year. I have the opinion that they are playing with us, psychologically. If the price stays above $4 then we should all be happy when it comes back down to $3 something? But I really believe that's what the government, oil companies, and Saudi think! If there is no strike, at the minimum we should all drive 50 mph whether you can afford the high price or not. At least we could stand in solidarity and use less which will hurt the above 3 in terms of taxes, revenue, and control. Those Saudi's have us against the wall and the government is in on it. We all need to make the point of who is ultimately in control of this country - it is us!!!

I remember when the Teamsters where in most of the trucking companies and it was a lot better for the drivers. If there is a united front on the drivers part there will be change but that change must come from the drivers. Ask yourself these questions ..... Do I like the way I am treated now ?, Do I get good benefits at a reasonable cost ?, Do I get a decent wage for the hours I work ?, Do I get paid for a breakdown or when I have to lay over ?, Can I be dismissed from employment at the whim of the company ?. If you answered yes, you are the rare driver. If you answered no, do you think things are going to change without a unified action ? You cannot do it alone, you must have an organization that will support you. What organization that may be is up to you. Getting "ORGANIZED" is what we must do for ourselves and our families.

 

Or you are free to walk out the door and find a company that meets your needs.

DHL workers got organized earlier this year and it put them all out of work . All union workers are organizing now is paycuts . Ask yourself these questions ...Am I willing to take a pay cut of 10% or more ? Am I willing to pay a higher share of health insurance costs ? Am I willing to throw in the towel after walking a picket line and accept these concessions ? Am I willing to pay dues to organizers that accept these concessions ? If you answered "Yes" you must be a Teamster . Do what for your families ? Get Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner from a food bank ?

The old timers will remebr back, when CF Frieghtlines closed up shop worldwide, rather then join the Union.

Truckers going on strike.
It will never happen again, because
#1. you have the mega carries that will continue on, pick up the frieght from those on strike.

#2. You can't get two drivers in the same room to agree on anything.

#3. with the way things are right now ,ie: millons of jobs gone,
a strike would force the companies to weed out those drivers who are on strike.


We the drivers need to write those in Congress, yes there are some truck industry friendly people there, and tell them how things area out here, not ony for the o/o, l/o, but as for the company driver.

The main stream media knows nothing about the plight of the trucking industry, other than we look bad to them , no matter what.

I listen to the truckers show on Sirius/XM, and you hear all these people crying and whining, but then they won't do anything to help change the indsutry. Oh not me, i'm not an organizer, or something to that effect, is what they say.
Sure there are a few groups out there trying to get things changed. But they are only a few hundred, compared to the millons out out here.
