I tried this: (and it works!)
With the engine running, cover the sensor until you get the "sensor or system disabled" orange msg. on the Meritor Wabco dash mounted tiny screen. Get on down the road, once you get to that point, click the cruise control on/off button, then hit the set/decel button and then the accel/resume button and back to set. It should enable your cruise control for the rest of your session. I mean, until you shut the engine off again. Enjoy the ride!.

Yeah I figured this out years ago when I was a company driver during a snowstorm. Even though I got a message that cruise was disabled, I noticed if I hit cancel and set really fast on the cruise it would enable. I own a 2019 truck now and recently was in a sleet storm and it now asks me if I want to switch to standard cruise control. I would love it if they made the system auto brake to avoid collisions only and audible warnings if you are too close but the auto slow down is really annoying since so many four wheelers and heavy trucks change their speed every second from 58 - 72 in a 70 MPH zone. I would like to be able to keep cruise on and when I see I am getting closer I can switch lanes. With so many people on the roads 24/7 these days I have to keep my foot on the pedal the entire day to avoid my truck from slowing down every time the driver in front of me looks at their phone, day dreams, or is about to miss their exit.

I personally think the system is not fully developed yet, it's going through the early stages right now and it's not fun when out of nowhere the truck slams on the brakes without a warning. I drive a 2015 Cascadia and been disabling the system for quite some time now and it works for me. I'm sure they will get it right one day...

They can easily adjust it by not having the truck slow down just because the vehicle in front of you dropped 1 mph in speed for two seconds and regains speed. It should have a buffer to maintain the current speed if they only drop 1 mph slower for a second. The system currently matches the speed second by second. Dumb four wheelers without cruise control drive at 70, 68, 62, 65, 72, 68, 64, 72, then 80 mph in a 70 mph zone every second. Then they see a cop parked on the side of the road so they hit their brakes down to 55 mph even though the speed limit is still 70. Having these nonstop morons in front of me as my truck automatically slows down and speeds up is not fun.

Does it allow you to use the cruise control while disabled as well?

Paint tin foil black, use black tape to secure tin foil. Rubber bands are the quickest to remove, for co. Truck inspections. Hit cruise button 2 or 3 times then set cruise. Cruise will still work. Now relax and enjoy the ride.

With the onguard..rapid touch of on/off 3xs of cruise control button will allow you to use the cruise control if it throws a code and disables radar system.
