Does anyone have anything good to say

    RIght now it sucks all over if your new expect to work your tail off for pennies.But you could work with those laid off mircosoft workers that are now paving our roads.Maybe you could be the lucky one of 9 that stand and watch the one in the hole working lol n./m
    I like trucking and always have but right now its tough you got to have the mindset that if you get into it right now you will have to take the crap from any company hiring noobs right now you will have to put in your time.
    Id say if you can last 1 year you will be 80% better off then what you are right now .
    Biggest problem is guys come here looking for easy money and sitting on the but and thats not what trucking is.Good things to say I like trucking and will always be driving are having something todo in the truckin area its a great biz once you get diesal in your blood its like a addiction you cant shake

    Dance, right now even Werner is having serious problems. Our dispatcher's wife is a load planner there. They start every day around 1100 loads short, and by the end of the day STILL have about 400 drivers sitting around waiting. Having run the paperless logs with Werner for a very short time, I would hate for them to go industry wide. You're right though about a whole bunch of companies going under if that did happen. Right now, most of them depend on how well the driver can log creatively!

    Why do they have to be creative with logs when they are sitting so much ???

    Wouldn't going to paperless logs industry-wide create a ton of NEW jobs since a lot of people wouldn't be able to do the same amount of work each day? It might take awhile for the industry to work out the kinks in wages to reflect less driving time, but in the end it might improve things greatly. Less work for comparable wages and 100% legal 100% of the time...

    In the 30 plus years I've been driving I've learned that you can do well in this business if you specialize. Right now I haul fuel and will probably continue to do so. In the past I hauled over-sized loads. Rarely have I not made a good living and rarely have I not been busy.
    This is a good business but, you have to have something more then just a CDL. Keep your record clean and look to be more then just "another driver".
    As far as paperless logs go I would suggest that the problem is not with paperless logs but is instead with out dated log rules. Someone really needs to change the rules to something that makes sense.

    I gave up on doing tractor trailers. Drawing in a logbook felt like art class, Everyone knew my every move. Sleeping in a truck and working 60-70 a week was no life.
    Waking up then driving 300-400 miles. Got old really fast.

    Found a Local Roll Off Dumpster Tri axle Job.
    A) No doodling in the federal coloring book.
    B) Other local drivers are a great bunch to interact with daily.
    C) Make more then i did doing OTR without less headaches.

    Local made me a better driver and enjoy it now.
    Still drive the dump trailers,when a TT driver calls off. but that is random and would not call it my primary job.

    So in the end, depends on the trucking job. I still suggest it to be a career.
    Haven't been laid off and not even work was slow. Every store still needs there container picked up :)

    In normal times, drivers are expected to log creatively to get where they need to be, etc. With paperless logs, they would have to actually plan and keep the rules. Neither drivers nor companies would he happy with that.

    Then the dispatchers for those companies are pizz poor planners . Just throw loads at drivers and expect them to take them . My schedules allow plenty of time to run legal and I take home more than I used to gross working for those raggedy companies that expect you to be creative . Drivers for those companies run 80 hours to make what I do in 60 .

    I also have a good company for planning. The paperless log would FORCE the "raggedy" companies to get good at planning or go under. That was my only point. Still, I would not like to go all paperless for the entire industry. Sometimes even the best need flexibility... like winter weather, etc.

    If you get audited they are getting much better at catching creativity . They don't just check average speed for the day anymore . They use P.C. miler and will check time driven between changes in duty status . They have several other tricks we don't know about .
