Lol, I actually live in an RV already. I just like to be doing something productive. The good thing is I won’t have to stress as much about money while I work.
What can I do to get myself better prepared?

TMC has an ESOP program where if the company does well for the year they kick you a bonus. They put it in your 401k if I understand my brother-in-law correctly. You have to be with the company as a company driver for 5 years to get the full amount.
Also I really want to just pay cash for the truck and save on intrest. Plus at least when purchasing a new 4 wheel vehicle most dealerships will be a little more willing to cut you a deal or haggle with you if you have cash in hand. Hope that applies with trucks as well. -
And 6 months or more of operating capital. You will find that payments for delivered loads take a while.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Thank you for your service. Good luck in your next venture

Planning five years ahead you will do well no matter what you ultimately decide! Thanks for serving and keeping our country protected!

Field Rep for Boeing?
If you get that, forget trucking. You can sleep at night, not risk your life on the road (this is the most dangerous job around) and you get perks with Boeing. -
Getting a field rep position is very hard to do as there are only 12 positions available around the world that I personally know of.
-
Upon exiting the USAF, was offered two positions.
One with general dynamics the other was McDonnell Douglas. The problem with both was, a young single buck having to spend 5 years in an overseas assignment in a place not well suited for a young single buck.
One of the few things that in hind sight, should have done. So if you think you have any kind of shot at the Boeing job, take it. Don’t know til you try.
As to TMC, good starter company. Will provide good general flatbed securement training. For running your own truck, you can find better options.
