I have a 60 series 11.1. On Monday it broke down.the drive gear was chewed up and the aircompressor blew a head gasket.also the valve cover expanded and blew a gal or so of oil out of the expanded side.so I replace air compressor, fuel lines, drive gear and valve cover [ it was unusable it cracked when it expanded] ,and the gaskets and grommets that go with it.
Now it runs ,but it smokes and it's got vacuume from the blowby tube.any thoughts on what caused the initial carnage, and what's up with the vacume?the smoke may just be from cold start in 20°f weather.

Sounds like the compressor didn’t have or had a bad safety valve Meanwhile air drier or governor or ? froze up down stream from compressor. Compressor ran pushing air past compressors rings into crankcase ventilation system. Till head gasket blew. Vacuum now? Never heard of that. I would think blow by would be bad now while compressor was building up, till it cuts out. Caused by bad or broken rings in compressor. My guess , only a guess is it will happen again if you don’t find problem. New air drier and governor at least and probably compressor.Unless the blow by tube was blocked causing the problems.I guess that could even cause a blown head gasket on compressor. No answers here. Not a Mechanic, just trying to give some ideas

I appreciate the reply.i installed a new reman aircompressor, and new governor.i hadn't thought about the air dryer.im betting it's at least a decade old.the vacuum from the blowby tube is after all the components I mentioned were replaced.I'm scared to run it because my thoughts are the same as yours as far as thinking I only treated the symptoms and not the cause.

Check air filter engine has to breathe if it can’t get air through filter it’ll draw from where it can

That’s right!! It should also have a very noticeable vacuum @ air filter intake then , unless it’s plugged up

    .
I reassembled the filter plumbing and I have a load from kc to ia on Monday.ill let everyone know how it goes.there's still no blowby at all even though there was considerable blowby before, and the theres a still suction at the blowby tube.its not enough to suck up gravel but readily pulls smoke up.
