All the lights green should be nearly impossible to do, without getting into and modifying the timer, that is until you put extra electronic crap in them.
I don't see just normal traffic accidents going down with driverless cars. Just look at how nobody can leave their phone alone now, what happens when everybody thinks they've got a self driving car and nobody's paying any attention to the road and it misses something? A box truck with explosives? Tell me, just how easy do you think it is to go buy enough explosives to blow up a box truck these days?
Guns, that's something that's different that if we go into too far will be kicked out.

Sorry but robot trucks are not happening anytime soon, there are still lots of issues like gps isn’t 100% accurate as sometimes I’m driving in the streets but I’m still on the freeway, equipment fails, my radar has ####ed me over to many times to count now, braking when no truck or vehicle present on the highway. Breakdowns happen no matter if diesel or electric. They will get vandalized ASAP since no driver in sight.

I do however see one driver having two or trucks following in a convoy style as the early German trucks being tested few years ago.

Either way prices will continue to fall as more steering wheel holders come into the industry thus negating the need for robots.

The vets will retire and who ever gets in now has a chance to make it in industry but give another 5 years newcomers will not.

In the meantime, Waymo One launched last year December in Phoenix. Sure, a driver is behind the wheel monitoring the driverless vehicle that is providing rides to some 200 selected passengers. The expectation is that it will be available to the public this year. Tests are also being done in a couple dozen other major cities. Waymo One is not the only company conducting tests. It will be funny visiting this thread 5 years later. This is already happening.

Cars I understand could be possible in the near future, self driving trucks not so much, I think 30-40years maybe but not in the next 10 years, but that’s enough time for me to dig my 6 feet and get it ready.

I have addressed this issue on this thread and on this other thread (comment #16). Most people must have thought aircrafts were impossible before 1750. Now, some aircrafts can fly over 2,000 MPH? Communicating with someone on the other side of the world and with a wireless phone? Yup, we got this.

Will self-driving trucks be an issue for truckers

    Zero concern.
Last thing I remember getting this much bogus hype was Google glasses.
    Before that, probably Milli Vanilli.

I get what you are saying, but those innovations cant be compared with trucking. I still have not seen a self flying cargo air craft yet current Boing and Airbus air craft are sophisticated enough to take off and land by themselves.

Dvinci didn’t think it was impossible to fly and that was before the 1800’s.

there is no way currently to replace a driver, the technology isn’t there, I’m not saying its not possible just saying its not there yet.

And as I've said before, they'll work until they don't, and that first lawsuit is going to be so #### huge everybody with a driverless or making them is going to #### in their collective pants, and then they'll be buying them back and recalling faster than you've ever seen.

Ok, it is reasonable to point out that driverless vehicles may never be allowed to operate independently even if they were capable. One way to solve this issue is to build roads for driverless vehicles only, or at a minimum take one lane from the freeway, say the left lane, and then isolate it from the public. Next would be to build huge lots for driverless vehicles to exit to. Driverless vehicles will do the long haul, and people will take care of the delivery.

Da Vinci, or the like, does not count. I should have said before 1750 as hot air balloons were around in the late 1700s.

Logistics and cost is prohibitive, the current race to the bottom still puts it out of reach.

A single lane for driverless? What happens if there is an accident or breakdown? Now you have a whole lane that’s not going anywhere for hours until it’s cleaned up.

It’s just not in reach anytime soon.

Electric trucks I can see it happening in 10 years like the Nikola 1 truck not Tesla.
