I just bought a Cottrell CX10 High rail CHAIN. I plan to strap a majority of my operable vehicles and only want to keep chains on the truck where they will remain useful. I plan to be picking up inops from Copart and IAA at times but am not sure which positions on my trailer and head rack to leave chains at for the inops. I need recommendations on which decks positions to leave the chains on for those unique scenarios. Thank You

Just roll them up in storage position.

If you plan on hauling mostly inops leave the chains in place and use them, it is a lot easier to hook a chain from the bottom then fussing with over the tire straps...

Keep the chains. If you will be picking up cars from copart or IAA you might not be able to use straps due to damage to the tires or wheels.

I paid to remove chains due to potential "loose chain damage" on my bottom cars, then had a damage claim where an upper deck vehicle at 13' 11" hit something, I guess from jumping up and down since all clearances were well over 14 feet. Got a $7000 claim to pay. Chains on the body/axles might have prevented that. When you strap a tire that's ALL you strap: not the body, not the shocks/struts, etc.

I have removed chains on some decks. The decks that tend to be higher when loaded still have chains. I stlll chain pick up trucks except the new f150s. On the lowers decks i use straps. Keep the chains on some decks and remove the ones that you can strap easily. That will also take of weight. Chains come in very handy on ambitious loads that are risky.
