The Marten website says you have to have hazmat to qualify. Really? Any Marten drivers out there that can answer how hard and fast they are about that? I did not renew mine when I renewed my license in December because I did not have the $300+ for the background check. (I got the original hazmat endorsement before that requirement came into being.)
HazMat?

Cost my husband $80 for FBI backbround check in July....
-
Wow, that's expensive. I dropped mine as well because I didn't feel like hassling with X anymore.

It costs $155 fr background check in KY but my carrier reimburses me . Used to take 60 days to get cleared but is less than 1/2 that now .

Carrriers reimburse who haul hazmat. Mine does not, so I would have had to pay the amount. I had heard $300 from others in Nebraska, although that may be old. In December I did not have that money to use... or now for that matter... but certainly not when Christmas was coming up. I am tentatively looking into going back to 48 OTR instead of this north east stuff every week (get tired of traffic, tolls, and crappy weather), but with freight so down I may stick to what I have. I had heard Marten was a good company and keeping everyone busy. Went to their site, and it says they require hazmat. Go figure!

you would be reqired you to get it with in 90 days i thank is what it was but i didnt have mine when i drove for them.....i thank they remburse up to 100 big ones.....dont quote me on ne of theses numbers though i was only there 2 weeks

I renewed mine over a year ago, sent in the reicepts and a week later had all cost out of pocket, paid back in a week.
Yes they want you to have it with in 90days. -
Thanks. I will check into that. I don't think I have ever spoken to an unhappy Bluebird driver. Skibum I take it you fly the bluebird? And you apparently have been there over a year... so how is it? Are they keeping miles up? What have you been averaging lately? This is my biggest concern with changing companies. We are small, and are having the challenges that come with that, but we do have a group of regular customers that keep our miles around 2500 to the east coast and back to Omaha each week. If I move, I can't live on 1000 miles a week...

BTW, the Marten recruiters told me that Marten does not haul Classes 1 & 3 (flammables & explosives), but I did in fact haul placarded flammables, just FYI. You are supposed to get your HZ endorsement within 90 days of hire, and there may some re-imbursement, so you should check into that. I got re-imbursed for the $80 background check. I had to provide a copy of both the receipt and my newly issued CDL with the HZ endorsement to get the reimbursement.
