Distribution center abuse

It is not simple for everyone to change the type of trailer they are pulling and avoid so called abusive places. The degree of abuses that the OP describes: 11- 18 hours, is not very common though. Most of the time, 4-6 hours is the median of detention in bad DCs. I am sure that even with an open deck the loading/unloading may take the whole day too sometimes.

 

I've had far more trouble with lazy over paid union workers that need to take a 20 minute nap before taking their 15 minute(30 minute in real time) coffee break

 

Dominicks DC in Northlake, IL was like that. SOBs had my trailer once offloaded, yet they did not hand me my paperwork due their 30 min break. They had me sitting there on a stool and wait. Well, there is no Dominicks now and the warehouse was torn down to the ground. I hope that their union members at the warehouse management level are bums now thinking about things they should have done better.

 

What would be the threshold of abuse or tolerance level? For me it is 3 hours. There is no excuse for them to keep a truck at a dock for more than 3 hours. Lumpers or not.

 

Or AK steel, jeez that's another one to add to the list.

 

I’m looking to be an O/O in the next several months. I want to do flatbed as well. Any suggestions for me to start off? I plan on running for a carrier then getting my own authority after 2 years.

Stop dancing to their music, that simple... Stop letting them abuse you... Distribution centers, brokers, shippers.. none of them would treat us bad if you wouldn't let them... I don't let them but i'm only one man...

 

It's never gonna stop, just like cheap rates and new competitors coming in daily
