Husband and wife team. Currently with Crete. Been there 4 years in April. Have TWIC and hazmat. No load board experience. Have been looking at Mercer and Bennett. Suggestions? Gathering information to make the best decision possible. Thanks!

Both are good companies.Spongekids2 Thanks this.

What are you making currently at Crete? What does your typical week look like?
-
We run on cpm. We average about 52-5500 miles per week. Bring home after insurance and truck payment and etc we average about 2k-2500 a week. We know we can do better. We hardly EVER bring home 3k. We have to run into the 6 to 6500 miles per week to do that. We are in our 50’s and don’t want to drive that hard every week to bring in decent money.

You own your own truck?

Mercer is like Landstar but with a flatbed emphasis. Bennett has a few divisions, one of which is called Heavy and Specialized and serves the armed forces. I haul dry van arms and ammo and you can do that at Bennett if you can get a secret clearance. DOD also has flatbed freight. If you don’t want to haul arms and ammunition Bennett also has a lot of non-DOD freight.

Thanks! Is it just flat bed only? If so are they already tarped? Husband did flatbed before I started and he hated it. Being out in the weather trying to get load covered but that was with Roehl years ago. We would want DOD runs since we are a team just not thrilled about flatbed.

Landstar, explosives and ammunition group. Period
Spongekids2 Thanks this. -
Thats our next step if Bennett doesn’t meet my revenue needs. Are you currently hauling A&E for Landstar? We only made $4000 after expenses last week so might have to switch if the loads don’t improve. Maybe A&E is slow right now.
