How do you guys precalculate toll scenarios?

It usually cheaper to run around the toll roads. Experience is a big help. To avoid Indiana/Ohio toll on 80 from just passed Lake Station IN take US- 49 south to US-30 to ohio get on I-76 to I-80

The other BIG one to avoid Pennsylvania Turnpike. You can to I-80 to I-99(State College PA) US-322 to US 22 Harrisburg PA. That rout many be close for cunstconstru today. You can take I-80 to exit 210 take US-15 south to Harrisburg PA.

Anything on the Northeast is crazy expensive I think the George Washington Bridge is $110 and most bridges are like $25-$30 in that area. NJ change you like $25 to get out of the state but free to enter.

 

There’s this handy thing called a Prepass. Works awesome with the time constraints of the ELD.

EDIT: I said Prepass here, I meant EZ-Pass. Both are pretty handy for truckers though.

 

There should still be some old routes you can run along and not use the toll roads such as IN, OH and PA and then NY. etc. That's hundreds of dollars.

The fuel burn is not that much provided you have a high horse engine that can take some of the ridges.

US 322 though is something like 8% winding down 5 miles give or take a little bit. We have been up and down it in snow barefoot up to 3 feet depending on the type of snow. 80 has milesburg, a 10 mile downgrade to 15. 15 is a good route north and south. Better to take 180 and cross back over the river dam sunbury to 15 south etc. Flat terrain. Rather than taking on summit hill. (And the scales)

 

Every toll authority provides a web site where you can calculate your tolls.just write name of the toll road and add toll calculator in the search bar

I use this app for more than tolls. It's really handy for comparing routes and fuel costs.

I do run an EZ-Pass (I accidentally said Prepass above, I don't have one of those yet).

 

The rand mcnally overdryve pro can calculate 2 routes 1 with and 1 without tolls and itll give you and approximation of how much the tolls are. For example it says its about $62 to run 130 from georgetown to seguin tx to avoid Austin

 

You have to get to where you instantly know them in your head while you are quoting the load. Then charge for them. Then....if time allows take non toll roads and save the money! The ONLY one I even really think about is PA and then of course the bridges heading in to New England.

 

Hell i racked up a 52 dollar toll violation a couple weeks ago over anitoch bridge in antioch ca.. I been over the bridge many timea in my other truck that had ez pass elite pass and it paid for the toll, well just to my surprise the ez pass i got in this new truck i have doesnt work for their stupid toll and i didnt have any cash, 26 dollars to drive over a stupid bridge maybe 2 miles long , plus another 26 dollars for the violation , lets just say ive learned to route myself around that bridge
