What caught my eye is that perhaps ther ewas a list of companies that would hire with little or no expereince. So far, I have seen everything but that list of companies. I graduated from CDL school at the end of December, and haven't been able to find a job yet. YES, I now lots are people are looking for jobs right now, but I've only found 3 or 4 companies that outright were not hiring. They either don't hire students or rejected my application. I agree with handysamm. You have to start somewhere, but companies must think that experienced truckers grow on trees. If they are not careful, there will be a trucker shortage, because people won't bother because they'll never get hired anyway. Don't laugh. I've seen it happen to the tool & die industry. The companies did away with apprenticeship programs and as the older toolmakers retired, no one was there to take their place. Now those jobs are in other countries where the company owners don't have their heads so far up their rear-ends. They can't get it into their heads that if you train a beginner to do things your way instead of a veteran driver, you'll have a better chance of them being done that way. However, getting back to why I'm here, whereis that list?

I agree with some of what you say but, unfortunately, right now due to the shortage of freight and the surplus of drivers, companies do not have to hire anything but what they consider to be the "cream of the crop"
The "cream" could be zero tickets instead of 1 in 3 years, it could be no more than 5 miles from the terminal, it could be new student grads only (because they will work cheaper). The problem is that we as applicants dont know what they are looking for. If we did, we could structure a resume with work history to better fit their profile. We could change our address, we could embellish our school GPA, maybe we could even find an O/O to exagerate our experience.
I think that as newbs, our only real option, is to be honest, and keep plugging along with as many applications to as many companies as possible and work towards the best end result possible.
I will offer 1 possible suggestion the may have been posted and I missed
Try the local or regional phone book and find all of the real small trucking companies. The ones that have less than 50 trucks. The ones that built their company themselves but knew their limits of expansion. When I was in sales, I learned that the big companies with big contracts made big money, but when times got tough they cut back everywhere. The small companies cant afford to cut back. They will scramble to find loads. They also are more loyal to their customers and employees. Their safety record is more personal.
Of course this entire post is only my opinion and should be taken with as many grains of salt as you feel you need ..

I think the reason it is not easy to just make a list is that the list of 'stater' companies is pretty fluid. Best to just apply everywhere you can.

I'd like to see list of companies that are willing to hire experienced drivers who just may not have recent experience. I've got 3 years under my belt but my last trucking job ended in Feb of 2006. I had to wait 3 years due to my having too many points and a suspension on my license making me unemployable insurance-wise. But now that I've passed the 3 years with no tickets/points or anything companies are telling me that they can't hire me due to my not having "recent" experience(at least Heartland Express & CR England said so). So I guess I might as well be back in the same boat as if I had no experience what so ever. And I don't mind OTR. Hell, I've got no family or kids to provide for so I could stay out for a year with no home time and I wouldn't mind. At this point I wouldn't mind new driver pay rates.

PRIME is still hiring people with no experience and training them.
"No recent experience" is an insurance issue, not a company issue. Most insurance companies require experience within a year or two, and the companies have nothing to say about it. Try one of the companies that is self-insured, like Swift or Schneider. If they can't help you, they might at least be able to give you some advice. -
Thanks Kingsson. I'll try Schneider. Already worked for Swift before for a year, and I hear they're not doing so well these days. Are there any other companies that are self-insured? Is there a list of them somewhere? Thanks.
