    Engine Speed communication error. PID 190 FMI 9. Any idea what this could be?

    I can't find any Cummins specific 190-9 codes. They have 190-2 for data erratic or 190-0 for overspeed. FMI 09 in general is abnormal update rate from a component over a datalink like another electronic module or smart sensor. Where did you pull this code from?

    From my pro link and it is a Volvo and it was same in the dash read out. I didn't see one for cummins either for 9. I saw several other people on other sites that have had this code but no one ever came up with an answer.

    I tried a new sensor but still there.

    He did have 17 inactive codes in the system. This was the only active after I cleared them out. I told him to see what comes back. He had a few for his dash board (instrument cluster) and he said his dash stops working altogether sometimes.

    The SAE format of codes doesn't always get translated properly. You might be barking up the wrong tree all together. Try to read the code with Insite and see what it is.

    I don't have insite. I told guy to run by Cummins or dealer. He is supposed to let me know what happens. Thanks

    Heavy D any idea how to get fixed same issue? please share your opinion about Volvo 2010 ISX same faults:
    engine speed, data erratic
    when shuts down it shows no connection between truck and ECM.

    I am in SC as well. This was 5 years ago but I do not remember the customer or what happened. I will use a little of my very limited brain power to see what I can dredge up out of my cranial unit.
