Did you ever get it to unlock? I've had a converter dollie do that crap, but never run into it on a tractor. Finally got it unlocked by just pulling the tractor and first trailer into a bit of a right turn. Just enough to turn the gear a little. Then the #### thing just unlocked like a breeze. Never had it do it again after that. ???????????????????????????????![]()

Be careful what you're banging on. Here's a picture of the underside of a Fontaine 6000 series no-slack 5th wheel. The used parts are near the top of the pic, in roughly the same orientation.
The adjustment bolt on this one does two things:
1. Sets the maximum depth that the wedge can slide in behind the jaw. Proper adjustment is 1/4" clearance between the end of the adjuster and the wedge, with it locked on a 2" kingpin (or a piece of 2" OD pipe when setting up a rebuilt one).
2. Serves as a punch pin to dislodge the wedge if it's stuck.
My point is: on mine, the adjustment bolt doesn't really tension or adjust anything, and is actually designed to be hit with a hammer. On other types that may not be the case. Might get things loose today at the expense of something else later.Attached Files:

Some trucks have different methods of releasing the trailer. For instance, instead of pulling the lever straight out, you might have to try an upwards pull and then pull out. Or if you have a Volvo truck, you would have to pull up and left for the aluminum shaft of the lever to lock against the outside of the mechanism.

Most newer trucks have different methods of releasing the trailer, instead of pulling straight out you might have to pull up and out, up and left or up and right. If your truck has a user manual, check that out. If that doesn't work call one of the shops of the make of truck you drive and ask them. You can't really waste time not knowing how to do this properly since this is something that comes with the territory of being a trucker.

Dang this is six years ago he has got it unhooked by now! Then again you never know. Hope he has not had to run live loads for six years solid.

well, this thread is for others with similar problem too, lol like me for example

i dont know if my pin has a dislodge purpose. i got a 2007 volvo 660. If it does, how do you use such a pin to dislodge? or is it not for manual dislodging lol?
