The 389 have been stretched to 131" and the 389sh or 388 are 123". This is my 388 with a 312"wb. As you can see no flatbed work here. ;)

Yea they stretched it to accommodate emissions bs.

I used to carry chains in side boxes until the New York DOT gave me a ticket for having the grade 70 worn off all my links then I had to go buy all new chains so I hang them in a cabinet now

We run long trucks here in Alaska, even the big companies run long trucks for everything except town hostler trucks.
About the shortest company truck you see is 285, one company runs 325 in rigs.
Owner operators run what they have, but anyone that has been here over a year or two will have at least 285, most kw's are 310 and most petes are 300 in, but OO's that have stretched their short trucks are liable to be anything up to around 330.
The haul road is just too hard on short trucks, the radiators take the worst beating.
long trucks don't fold up as quick when the jakes lock up or a switchback is slick under power going up.
They steer better (way better) with both lockers in than short ones.
We also haul a lot of loads with quite a bit of overhang in the front and sometimes that makes the difference weather you have to have one pilot car or two.
Plus they just ride sooooo much better on our rough roads, easier on the driver.

I have taken my haul road truck outside twice, anytime I parked in a truckstop I was always afraid somebody would take the hood off, that and the weight was the only trouble I had running a long one otr.

    Rubber duck kw Thanks this.

Not enough time to scroll through 20 pages of replies but a legitimate reason for the longer wheelbase is the federal bridge formula when exceeding 80,000
