You may have to bypass your dealer and get in touch with the Cat rep for the area your in. Dealers can get lazy and just drop the ball because they do not get paid by Cat when the problem can not be found. Cat will pay the dealer for a repair only if a repair is made.
Has anybody used Great Lakes Diesel????

Thanks for the heads up Maxeffort. Care to go into alittle more detail? I have emailed them a couple of questions, but have got little info out of them. I have never exchanged any money with them... maybe they are a little more generous with info if they figure they will see monetary gains?... davidLast edited: Mar 30, 2009

They are never going to be more generous with there info,
I spent about $17,000us with them took nearly 2 months to get the parts and there after sales service sucks!!!
On the plus side I think the turbo I got of them is the best for my application (very strong) just paid way to much for it and the other parts.
I wouldn't deal with them again because of there over priced parts and s#$t service and all the BS. -
Thanx for the history 830hp. Yeah they list a turbo on ebay, looks great but $5695.00
. They advertise an 18 liter motor, but BIG bucks. Their web site does make for interesting browsing, however........ david

You guys are lucky, out here they dont cough up for much unless you have a fleet of trucks, I have however seen Cat pay for a couple for the same reason as pullingtrucker says, you gotta really complain good but

WELL... it's good to finally know why my BXS pukes oil all over the steps and tanks... thanks
What does the secondary breather cost???
Why design something that pukes oil??? I'm starting to lose patience with this ACERT, it's not at all what my old 3406's were... maybe a good thing CAT is getting out of the biz. -
I don't know about that. The foundation for an awesome engine is still their.Just costs a bit of money now.

OK, I need to:
fix the defective factory breather setup
test the air to air for leaks and likely replace all the clamps
probably replace the defective designed factory fuel filter head that cracks regularly and doesn't flow enough volume anyway
get someone to run the rack who knows how to defeat the faulty factory design of retarding the timing to meet emissions
replace the fuel pump that wears out by 300,000 miles
remove the factory catalytic mufflers and replace with something that isn't choking the s&*t outta the engine
what did I miss??????
I need to spend what, $2500 or more to make it run like it shoulda run outta the factory door?
NONE of this was an issue with my 3406C, and it ran BETTER than this lump burning only slightly more fuel at 70-75mph than I burn now at 64-65mph
-
Let me know what the fix is.
Probably replace with a plate & bar style.
Buy Davco 382 filter and lose the OEM primary filter set up
I think maybe DDS has the fix.
Almost their I guess I'll find out pretty soon
8" pipes with a Rod Pickett Y and elbows
Probably a few but I'm to tired to think
I wish $2500.00 was enough
Are we haven fun yet .lol

Remember Cat didn't build the Acert with customer satisfaction at the top of its priority list, the reason for Acert is to meet the increasingly tough emission standards. If it were up to Cat I'm sure they'd still sell you 6NZ C15s.
While changing things like mufflers will make your truck run better it will also make it non emission compliant, not saying you shouldn't do these thing to get you truck running good, just saying Cat would have already done it for you if they could have.
I think all the manufacturers are in the same boat, I dont know many people who love their EGR ISX either.droy Thanks this.
