Good question . That's the problem . Very ,very , few even stay a year . Most of the time it's not the driver's fault . They get a few pay increases and the carrier will come up with some petty violation to charge them with and terminate them . The reason carriers do that is because there is no longer a driver shortage but a huge oversupply of people begging for a job . People don't have the sense to understand the trucking industry is feeling the same effects of the economy as other industries . Companies are closing and tens of thousands of people are losing jobs every month .
But here's the deal . The megacarriers know when you get 2 or 3 years experience you will leave to work for a better carrier . They're not going to train drivers for the competition . They'll just keep a constant turnover of cheap , desperate labor .
Professional Drivers are they history ?

For now. I will look for the company that treats its employees with respect and the proffesionalism that we require. I have had my taste of "company" life. No thankyou.
Companies know that there is no reason at this time to correct themselves. Make themselves look good to the public and to the customer. Since the company has no real feel for the driver, we are just another # to them and our # needs to be pushed. They call it motivation, we call it other things.
The difficult part is it seems this industry is not built on the information that we have to live by. We try to be proffesionals and show respect and common courtesy for all around that we either work for or with.
I am glad that there is this board that we can discuss any situation. Proffesional drivers extinct? Not hardly, just our needs are not being met.RickG Thanks this. -
Don't get me wrong , I know there are deserving people out there with potential to be a real asset to the industry if they had a chance . The problem is the opportunities they deserve aren't there . Not with the OTR companies that have to keep hiring only because drivers keep quitting . There are a few good opportunities out there that a lucky few will find . But those jobs are very scarce .

Such opinion, I love it. I agree there is a huge problem out there and it probably will never get fixed unless the GOV A Holes step in. It's a combination of everything from the mega companies and how they do business to multi level brokering. The handful of MEGA companies have a monopoly on the industry.
There are plenty of "Professional Drivers" still out there; we all see them including the newbies. It's too bad they forgot to respect their elders, guess it can be blamed on their environment from which they sprang or in some cases spawned from. I really don't think you can expect much from a convenience store school taught driver who was the product of the ME generation of the eighties.
You show no respect, then none will be reciprocated. Right?, Wrong!
Any "Professionsl Driver will alway show some level of respect to the other. It's who we are naturally on the road and offLast edited: Mar 16, 2009

Think they are the same ? Think one could be the other ?
We had a long winded chat on CH19 the other day on the differences,or if there really are any between the two.
So take a position by posting an opinion, hold that opinion.
Lets see where ya'll take it . . . . . . -
