Do some trucks not have a clutch brake? Last trip I was on it felt like clutch brake was not engaging, I managed to get home and climbed underneath today to do an adjustment and there was not clutch brake in there, I dug around the bell housing to see if it broke apart but there is nothing there. I tightened the clutch up and it goes into gear now like it’s supposed to but after test drive and warming up, can’t get it into gear from stop??
No clutch brake in the truck?

Im assuming this is a manual.
During the stop clutch in break power, STAY IN THAT GEAR, whatever it is. AFTER you are stopped that onery transmission should have the gears settled down and not spinning. Much. -
They should all have it. If it's gone they make split kits you can install from the bottom.
Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
Uh, what kind of truck are we talking about? If you adjusted it and it is now working, what is working if there is no clutch brake?
-
The object of the clutch brake is to stop the trans from spinning so you can get it into gear. Not having 1 is why it won't go into gear. On an auto-manual, the inertia brake stops the trans so the computer knows when to shift.

I understand what the clutch brake is and have replaced them before, the truck is a Freightliner Columbia and eaton 13 spd, it should have a clutch brake in it. It has always went into gear from a stop perfectly, just this last trip it felt like it wasn’t and I went to adjust the clutch underneath and noticed there was no clutch brake there. I did buy one today and will be installing it tomorrow. Just weird why it was not there? I did look around the bell housing to see if it fell apart somewhere but nothing there

They've been known to run away if abused.sergk1989 Thanks this.

Probably a cheap aluminum 2 piece was in there and it broke and fell out. Or the screws fell out. Buy a better 2 piece or better yet, replace the clutch and put in a 1 piece.
spsauerland and sergk1989 Thank this. -
That’s what I think happened but just can’t figure out how it got past the inspection cover?? Clutch is still good so no point in dropping the trans

magic. lol No way for it to get out of there. Most 2 piece ones are heavier duty that the cheesy ones that come with a clutch kit. I have an older truck that has the old 6613, I think is the tranny, any the old light duty strait shifting 13 spd, that doesn't use a clutch brake, it has a trans brake with a button on the shifter, but I do not know of any modern rig that doesn't use one.
