My post on used cars was in response to Post #6, not about used trucks.
Friend of mine was a previous 0/0 and wanted to get back in to being an 0/0.
He took some time off and visited Bruce Oakley and knew the questions to ask. He was satisfied, so went to Maverick Transportation looking at their used trucks. He decided to buy a used Maverick Transportation flatbed truck and lease to Bruck Oakley. At the last minute he changed his mind and decided not to be an 0/0 again.

Personally, If I was thinking about buying a truck for the long term, I would look for an older OO getting out and get one with oo specs over nearly any fleet truck. You will find better engine options, tranny options gauge options, plus creature comforts.

I would get what truck you want to spend time in, you are the one going to be sitting in it most of the time.
When I was running down there I usually had 2 KW's and an International, some times 2 internationals. I drove my 9400 international, my preferance, more comfortable to stay in for the long haul. I have not run the big road in the lower 48, but if I started again today, it would be in that same international. Up here I drive a kw, but it is because of the way it is specced (heavy) and I am only out 1 night at a time, unless the weather ties me up somewhere. The international is mid roof, all the room in the world for anything except a trampoline, works very well for any open deck, tanker, hopper even dirt trailers. I originally had the extended fairing and it did save on fuel pulling a van, but I seldom did, so removed it.

I've mainly been looking at Cascadias because they're so common. The Pete was a joke about the pic posted earlier with long nose trucks.

At this point shiney chrome and chicken lights don't impress me as much as being clean and a cleaner maintenance report. Which is the exact opposite of what I have now.

I drove a Pete as a service loaner for the Mack I was in. I like the Mack better than the Pete, funny I know. For me the ergonomics worked better, I'm 6'10".

Anywhere but a dealer. All they do is get someones trade-in (wonder why it was traded in?) and then do a polish and spray can restoration on it, mark the price up $15k and tell you how great of a truck it is when really they havnt a clue about it. If it was a great truck it likely wouldnt have been traded in or bought at an auction to sit on a dealers lot. Sometimes they try and sell you a warranty that covers everything except normal wear and tear items....except everything on the truck is subjected to normal wear and tear.
Craigslist or Facebook market place ive seen the best deals, just avoid the ones with fresh spraypaint. Truckpaper is high priced and mostly chop shop dealers and auction retailers, I have hundreds of hours in looking this year.
I looked in small town all across the country on facebook marketplace. On facebook you can research the person selling it, see if they actually care about it, if what they tell you is legit, like "just upgrading to a newer truck" and you see on facebook they buy and sell cars and trucks every week... a flipper. run. Or a guy whos had it for awhile, has pictures of it in the sunset and is proud of it. Lots of cons on there but its easy to read through them on facebook. :D
