My cousin owns a truck and wants me to team load with him. He said the split would be 60 40 after all expenses so I would get 40 of the net. Is that how must do it? Or should I be getting 40 percent of the gross

No we’re splitting the fuel it’s his truck he’s paying the payment and repairs

If you’re getting 40% net (after insurance, fuel, IFTA, etc.) and he pays all the repairs, that doesn’t seem too bad.

A team truck even on a down market should pull $9k minimum gross. I get $6k min a week solo.
Let’s assume $9,000 gross, $2,800 fuel, $400 insurance/whatever thats $5,800 net, your paycheck would be $2,300. Seems good to me. Granted I’m guessing all the numbers but I can’t see it being bad.

It is whatever you're able to negotiate. You need to know exactly what costs have to be deducted from the gross, before you reach the net. And it all must be in writing and get it notarized or get a contract drawn up. Family or no family, this is a business proposition.

For example - Say you gross $10,000 one week on 6700 miles. Average rate per mile is $1.50. The fuel bill alone will be $4,300.00 for a truck getting 5.5 mpg @$3.50 per gallon of fuel. So now you have a balance of $5,700 . If he is not taking any other truck expenses from the balance, then your cut is $2,280.00.

5.5mpg @3.50 a gallon?! How in the world. I run a w9 flatbed and all independent fuel stops I average 6.4mpg at $2.79 a gallon. That $5,700 fuel bill should be under 3k.

I wouldn’t do it unless I really needed a job and couldn’t find one.To many variables on what after expenses are.not to mention the working for family problems could come up.Some numbers here about you making above $2 grand a week I would really doubt that will happen but could I have no information on what the truck will actually be making

    60/40 split?

Ok here is what I do, the person who pays for fuel gets the 60%. they get the 100% fsc.

The other person get 40% but it is all based on this ....

ALL ON THE GROSS OF THE TRUCK.

Anything less to me is ripping the person off.
