If it was me and crossings need to be made safe?

Raise the #### tracks and bridge it. Or dig down and allow the road to go over the rail.

One town in white county has a dual main for Union Pacific, that one is a 80 mph line for passengers and 79 for freight. There is a upgrade of a few hundred feet up in elevation (Not much but stiff enough) over a couple of miles. They are working pretty all out at 40 or 50 when they reach the top and to the first four crossings and start blowing.

Sometimes TWO trains side by side roll, one slow one fast shakes the very ground. Executing a form of passing each other for dispatching purposes.

Several times a year we have a drunk high center. Sometimes they work around a gate and caught between or under rail cars. (Duh...) and once in a while they willfully bust the gates through. The railroad comes out breaks off the broken gate and puts in a new one. The local police patrol it looking for those who evade the gates.

You should take a look at the NW Corridor in Amtrack. It's nigh on a 125-150 mph line now. If a train is coming you never hear the one that kills you for being too close to or on the track. Serves you right stupid. What a unnecessary mess.

Also in Harpers Ferry, you think this idiot standing on the platform would hear and feel the monster coming to kill him....

Close call, looks like that accident is waiting to happen, once again.

Man struck by train, killed at Harpers Ferry station... "An investigation determined that Cavalier failed to notice warning devices and stepped in front of an oncoming northbound train."

Then again, since the railroad had already determined that stop signs didn't work well enough, the reduction in accidents probably reflected these thousands of closed crossings, as much or more than new signs elsewhere. Nothing new there... maybe around 60,000 to go for a 25% closure.

My last job as a security guard, one of the posts was to wait for trains and then stop people from driving onto the tracks. More than once, a frac sand driver has been hit by a train, just not paying attention I guess.
